Our club has a TMCC NS SD40-2. Whenever I try to make the engine move in reverse, either with TMCC or DCS, the engine does not move, and the cab light flashes on and off. What is the problem? The engine runs fine in forward.
The flashing cab light is indicating a drive motor malfunction. The first check I'd do is see if the motors will both turn freely in each direction. If one is stalling in reverse, that can trigger the overload. You might unplug the motors and test them on a DC supply to see if they actually run smoothly in both directions without drawing excessive current.
If the motors are free, the most likely suspect is the RCMC board as that drives the motors directly.
