Weaver rejected upgrading my Sunset GN S-2 because "cannot fit a board in the tender due to Vanderbuilt narrow bottom," a couple of years ago. Is there now available a TMCC upgrade that is small enough to fit?
If this engine has an oil tender you should be able to fit a Cruise Commander and Railsounds board in there. The new Railsounds boards are pretty small. The oil deck should allow full height of the interior vs a coal bunker. The problem might be fitting a speaker and sealing it on a curved surface.
When did you contact Weaver about this? If it was more than ten years ago they may have only been using TAS boards which are much bigger.
I can assure you that there's a way to put TMCC into almost anything. If you're talking about this model, it's child's play!
That's the lady ... pretty locomotive. Maybe send this one to you for upgrade? I've been lucky doing a couple of diesel upgrades, but not-so-lucky with steam locomotive attempt.
Diesels are a bit easier as a rule, but many steamers are pretty easy. Of course, the older 3rd Rail stuff needs a smoke unit graft, that is sometimes interesting mechanically. However, that one looks fairly easy with only one stack.

This one is so nice it deserves the full upgrade treatment. Needs to be at the head of our old heavy-weight Empire Builder.
