I’ve got the latest Lionel 2-8-2 Southern #4501 steamer. I’m trying to figure out how I could add a tool box to the underneath side of the tender like the prototype has. Anyone ever done this or have any ideas/suggestions? Thanks!

I just made my own caboose tool boxes, it is simple, easy and low cost and looks just like Lionel's.
I made some wooden tool boxes to glue under the caboose and used E6000 glue.
I just measured the size of the Lionel tool boxes on one of their cabooses and used scrap wood to saw them out, added small pieces of wood for handles, painted them flat black and glued them on.
A couple of my repainted cabooses with homemade tool boxes under neath.
Posts 70 through 75 show several of my homemade and repainted cabooses some with tool boxes added. They are seen at the OGR link below.

Precision Scale sells toolbox fronts. Pretty sure you add them to a piece of appropriate sized wood. That’s what I did adding a battery box to a passenger car. You are getting pretty much the hinge and latch details on the brass casting. The other option I can think of is if you could provide a photo if it’s something unique. Is have one 3D printed. There’s forum members who may be able to offer this service or can advise you.
Nice lookin possumbelly !
On the MOW caboose I made with scraps from my junk box I used old "Block City" blocks for the tool boxes underneath
