Going to NH soon and wondered about some of the tourist railroads. Appreciate some comments about the Hobo Railroad, the Lake Winnipesaukee RR, and the Conway Scenic RR. Any of these trips worth taking?

I have taken the Crawford Notch trip at Conway, it's definitely worthwhile going up the notch, especially in the fall. I have taken that trip twice the scenery is great. There used to only be one Crawford Notch trip each day when it's running so you should check their website or call for departure times. Enjoy!

I agree with Don. You would enjoy the Conway ride into the notch. Like wise the MT Washington Cog to Top of Mt. Washington is a ride you will never forget. I have enjoyed both many times.
Conway also has a nice station and turntable and lots of old cabooses (some are homes) and other rolling stock and engines and RR stuff. There's an HO club nearby, too. Lots to look at and photograph.
I've ridden every one mentioned and each have their own charm. The Lake Winnipesaukee RR is a terrific ride with nice views of the lake and surrounding properties. I greatly enjoyed it. The Conway Scenic notch train has spectacular views of mountains, going over trestles, through deep granite cuts, and in the fall, the best foliage in the world. The Hobo was just OK, with much of the ride running through woods with little to see. It does house the nearly refurbished Flying Yankee though.
I rode Mt Washington in October 2004 when it was all steam powered. Today, one, if any of the steam engines are operational and home built diesels push the trains up the mountain. Hardly the same. If they are still running steam, it is very limited. I've heard they run one a day or something like that. If that is the case, take the steam train. What a ride it was with steam! Not the same with diesel.
My wife and I rode Mt Washington Cog in 2011. It looks like the schedule hasn't changed much. The only steam train leaves at 8:15 AM. Bring a warm coat!!!
