Well, I finally secured the Lionel Carousel to use a the centerpiece for my Town Park area, and although I have some ideas myself where I'm going with it, I would very much like to see what others have done with a park area. I have attached a few "preliminary" shots of the area I have to work with. I plan to have a brick or cobblestone walkway leading to the Carousel from the sidewalk opposite Mel's, with a pair of the MTH 3 lamp park lights flanking the walk on either side at the sidewalk, on the small "concrete" pads you see jutting from the main sidewalk into the park area.

As suggested by TURTLE 2, I plan to add a darker green "grassmat" as a base under everything before I make anything permanent.

Any photos of your park areas would be really appreciated.

Hi Rev:

Very nice. I have a very small park area and went very "rural," without any carnival rides, etc. I just couldn't fit them, and the wife wanted a "peaceful" park. I have attached before and after shots of the area (can you tell photography isn't a hobby of mine?) for your consideration with the idea of using some height. I took a piece of packing styrofoam (from some such thing) about 2" high and cut it down with a bread knife until I made a ridge in the back, then adorned it with trees. It help to separate the "industrial" from the "rural."

If you mean the sidewalks along the parks edge, I'm using 3/16" plywood, cut into strips 1 1/2" wide. My roads are 1/4" masonite so this makes the walkways 1/16" above the road surface.

I found a a spray paint called "Outdoor Decor" which has a textured finish in a sort of sandy colour, which gives a pretty decent concrete look.

Bruce.......your peaceful park sure does look peaceful.......I also have one of those small pedestrian bridges you have, and hopefully can work it in somewhere.

Alex.......wow, now thats an amusement park, I was thinking of trying to run down one of those chain swing accessories for my park as well. That would be another real eyecatcher, but I don't have all that much room, and don't want to end up with it looking all jammed in, after all it's just supposed to be a Town Park.

By the way Alex, where did you get the black iron fencing. I was thinking about going that route and fencing the park all around. I do have some wooden picket fencing that I will be running along the trackside, but the iron fencing would look better on the street sides.

Thanks for looking, and responding.

Hi Rev sorry I couldn't get back to you sooner, I just came home from vacation.

The Iron fencing is from model power. Most hobby shops carry it, and it's cheap

Let me know if you need the item number.

Thanks, Alex
