Hello All,

I recently found an old Weaver diesel in my collection with a TAS Railsounds system.  The loco runs great on analog but will not take commands of any kind.  When I pulled the radio board off, I discovered a wire underneath had been cut. I am thinking this may be the antenna wire but I am not sure since I did not make the cut.  Does anyone have a wiring schematic for the TAS boards?  Can these accept the ERR cruise control upgrades?

Many thanks,

Mike

Thanks Mike,

Looks like I have the EOB board BUT I am missing the tach sensor, that is the wire that was cut.  Anyone know where I can buy a tach sensor and tape?  I still do not see an antenna on the Cruise Control motherboard. What am I missing here?  I did not realize this one was a cruise control borad, this would negate the need for the ERR upgrade providing I can find the pieces to get her up and running.

Oops, after a second look I have the DC SAW board and the antenna wire is the one that was cut.  So I have to figure a good way to make one.  I know the "antenna" on the ERR is basically just a wire but it seems like the earlier stuff had an actual piece of brass that the lead wire was soldered to.  So if I want to convert to cruise control, will this board accept the ERR modular option?  Thanks again all!!

Although it is possible to "skywire" a CC-M into the TAS SAW board, I'd consider replacing it.  You could consider a Lionel diesel motherboard, transplant all the Lionel boards from the SAW, and add the Cruise Commander M motor driver.  Alternatively, you could just do the Cruise Commander and find a small steam RailSounds motherboard to mount the two sound cards on and go that way.

John, you always have the answers!  Thanks for the advice.  I think the only thing I do not like about the TAS board is the super high speed, not really appropriate for my 2 rail scale pike.  I love the old Weaver Alco FA-2s but was not thrilled with the China drive model but when I found one lurking in the attic I thought it may be worth a shot at putting it into service.  With ERR cruise I believe it would really run great and I could switch out my industries without fear of overshooting the siding and sending everything to the hardwood floor!
