I've kind of gotten tired of fighting decaying boxes - and have started repairing them when necessary.
I've been using carefully cut pieces of clear packing tape - and surgically applied Elmer's glue - to good effect.
The result are boxes that are stronger than the originals, close and open much easier - and will last a lot longer.
The repairs are detectable, but not obvious.
I've refrained from using this technique on older, 50s Lionel boxes - but - I'm not opposed to doing it.
On a few I've even touched up the surface wear a bit - not hard, (on a black Weaver box, for example) to take a black pen and tighten up the chips and corners where the white has worn through.
What I'd like to find is a nice replacement for the cellophane windows - where can one find that kind of material?
Thanks for any ideas or leads!
