Everytime my 1970s mighty sound of steam goes over a switch it either stops and runs in opposite direction or two loses all power then the littliest touch makes it power up again. The switches work with my other trains and no problems. Please help I love this loco and im 17... I already spent 60$ on the engine switch maintance..

It's possible that only one of the pickup rollers is working.

 

If you take the loco for a long, fast run, then feel the rollers, one may be hot and the other cold. The cold one is not working. Clean the roller and the shaft about which it rotates, look for broken wires to the roller, especially under any heat shrink that might be there.

In addition to RoyBoy's suggestions, do you happen to have this switch back to back with another switch?  Reason for asking is that another possibility in addition to RoyBoy's suggestions is that the distance between the pickup rollers on your engine might be spaced out enough to where both rollers drop into the gap between the center and diverging rails of both switches, causing power loss and the e-unit cycling out of forward.

Had this happen with my BEEP and sounds like what you have going on.  Can one of the rollers be turned around to change the spacing between them?  Maybe a longer roller assembly would fix it.

try turning the engine around, does the same thing happen?.....Sometimes it's not always a center rail  roller issue but the outside rails can be a problem as well especially around switches, I would try jumpering the outside rails together with a piece of wire for testing.

 

yep, hold one end of the wire  on one outside rail and the other end of wire on the opposite rail.  worth a shot.  good luck.

 

I watched  the video. the engine seemed to run pretty good. perhaps you have a couple of loose track pins on the switches.. I couldn't see anything wrong.

Your engine was built for 027 track, and will have problems with 0 gauge track, If it looks like Rob's picture. The rollers are spaced at the same distance as the insulating rails on the switch. The fix is rather easy and inexpensive. You need to replace the tender axle wiper assembly on the tender truck with a ground strap and pick-up assembly. These are inexpensive and easy to replace. You will need to resolder the ground wire to the axle wiper and add a second wire to the pick-up and have another plug and socket to the locomotive and wire that to the reverse unit hot wire. Then you won't loose power to the loco as the tender pick-up will provide power while the engine transverses the switch.
