Could someone offer advice on a few train related attractions around Indianapolis? I will be touring the EMD locomotive facility in Muncie, IN later this week. I might have read on this forum that Train Express is no longer in business. I plan to visit Mr. Muffin’s trains for the first time.

Thanks,

Naveen Rajan

EMD requires their tours to be no longer than an hour & since I will be the only one on this tour I plan to leave in time & plan to be at your store around noon this Friday, Oct 3. I was thinking about visiting your store in the past but your son-in-law strongly encouraged me to visit your store. We work in the same team here at Caterpillar & share a cubicle.

Thanks,

We will be there. There is a train museum in Noblesville. That's a good idea too. No kidding about Lance? Small world!

Might I suggest the Hoosier Valley Railroad Museum.  We are located approximately two hours north of Indianapolis, in the town of North Judson.  We operate vintage train rides every Saturday May through October.  We feature a 60 ft MKT flatcar, converted to a wonderful open-air car, a Long Island passenger car, an EJ&E Transfer caboose, and a Bessimer Cupola caboose, on our normal consist, headed by an Erie Lackawana S1 switch engine (1947).

Our museum was founded around the C&O 2789 2-8-4 Berkshire (Kenawa) steam engine (1947).  This is on display along with other vintage equipment.

We feature, in October, Pumpkin Trains, a Halloween train, as well as regular rides.  In December we have Santa Trains, and in the Spring, Easter(bunny) trains.

Also, for those who have always wanted to operate a train, we have, by reservation, Guest Engineer and Throttle Time programs.

Members are trained, in house to achieve FRA Conductor and Engineer licenses.

Visit our website  www.hoosiervalley.org

I am the host on the open-air car and I give a tour on local sites of interest.

Just ask for Randall,  I can get you up in the engine for a look see.

We are totally non-profit!
