Trainstock 12 at the NJ HiRailers Saturday Jan 18 2020

I'll be there along with my father and son.  Three total.  It's been too long!  

TrainStock T-5 days and counting. The TrainStock hats are in and look great, 2020 calendars are almost sold out and the MP15 ‘s are close to sold out.

See you all this emend.

I am sending apologies from myself, Gilly@N&W and the rest of the RC3R crew......it is layout "takedown day" finishing up our seven week run at the Great Big GreenHouse. Speaking for Tom and myself, we both regret not being able to come!

Weather for Saturday not looking promising for travel. Why can’t it wait till Sunday!!

Planning on coming up with Locobudd, one of my club members and our chief in our layout design.

I have been getting alot of inquiries for this years OGR Forum Meeting at the NJ HiRailers club in PAterson NJ.  For those that have never heard the term before its a day of Peace and Trains with some pretty good food. The date will be Saturday January 18,2020.  Start time is 10 am and the stop time is whenever anybody wants to leave.  This party is open to all OGR forum members and their family and friends. We charge $7.00 an adult person just to cover some of the cost of the food.  We have a pretty good time and anybody can bring their trains to run on our layout.  Just let me know how many are coming in your party and I will make sure we have enough food and drink for you  The Address is 185 6th Ave Paterson  NJ 07524 3rd floor  

 

We will be raffling off a number of cars at the event. 

 

BTW the NY City subway heard this is our 12 year of doing this and had a special number 12 train run down the rails

There is an important question I have, and it looks like now is a good time as any to bring it up.

As a good deal of people know and brought up recently, there is bad weather predicted to hit for Saturday.  How soon will the word be announced if Trainstock will be postponed to another date or (dare I say it) cancelled?

Would be great if it was postponed but would be a shame if was cancelled completely for this year.

Hello everyone brand new member and 1st post Woo Hoo .

I am definitely going to try and make the Trainstock event and wondered if this is more an "adult" event or is it kid friendly like last week's show?  I made it out to the HiRailers HQ w my 3 year old in the back all ready to further his burgeoning interest in the hobby but he FELL ASLEEP on the way and I couldn't get him up so that was unfortunately a bust.

I've enjoyed lurking on the site for a while now and am excited to be a full fledged member as I rediscover a lost love of my childhood that's been dormant for many many years (and BOY how the hobby has changed).

I look forward to hopefully meeting many of you tomorrow.

Its a little bit of both, the show is for Forum members and their F&F in the hobby. We allow OGR forum members to rund trains on the layout and have reserved two lines for you all that decided to bring your items with you. We have Legacy / TMCC and DCS on the reseved lines. I would say that for the most part this is more or adults only type of event, not the day for strollers, etc or little ones but bring them if you desire as they are always welcome.

Welcome to the forum!  It's the best online resource to discuss the hobby!

Expanding on what Kevin stated earlier, about 99% of the attendees of our public shows are families with young kids.   For Trainstock it's almost the opposite as 95% of the attendees are adult hobbyists. 

If you click on the link below my signature, we have photo albums on our website of past Trainstocks.   These will give you an idea of the "feel" of Trainstock versus a public show.    As Kevin stated, kids are always welcome as they are the future of our hobby!  I hope to meet you tomorrow.

I would have given it a shot, but I was scheduled to work today. I still want to work in a visit for early 2020, but I have to get myself there as I can no longer count on getting a ride to the club.

Same here. It’s an 8 hr round trip for me in good weather. Hope everyone had a good time. 

My son and I had a great time this morning!!  We have about a 2 hr drive so we needed to get going relatively quickly due to the impending weather but we’re so glad we came!!!  What an incredible layout...  and hosts!!  Thank you very much and I hope to see you next year!

Another great Trainstock. Thanks guys for that tribute to members who have passed on & especially the words that we’re spoken about Marty Fitzhenry.

Snow here if I was able to go would have played a factor for me. Good seeing family, would have been better if trains were involved.

Hi NJ Hi-Railers folks.

Sorry I didn't reply yesterday but I was beat after a somewhat challenging trip home to Long Island after the show; it's hard to believe how only a few inches of snow can turn drivers into meatheads on the roads--there were about ten fender benders, almost all of which had a police and/or ambulance presence, so there were massive rubbernecking delays most of the way home.

But Trainstock itself was terrific as usual; peace, love and trains, or trains, fun and food--however you wish to describe it. Though the turnout was light--undoubtedly due to the threatening weather--those of us that got there had a great time. I know Kathie and I did! There was plenty of non-stop subway action, a scale Big Boy was running all day long, and there were numerous recent-vintage diesels and some other steamers running throughout the day. There were a few teens running trains, too, which was great to see! For much of the day, there was a variety of organ music being played creating a pleasant background sound. In the morning, there were salads, a six-foot hero, hot hors d'oeuvres and shrimp cocktail available. Just before lunch, there was a short but poignant presentation by Chris Lord, the current president of the NJHR, including a tribute to a long-time club member's passing and to Marty Fitzhenry's passing as well. Not long afterward, Vinny and his kitchen helpers put out their customary, fine Italian lunch. Snow started falling just before lunch, so we cut our visit short and left the show about 1:45, earlier than our usual departure. The trip that in the morning took us an hour and twenty minutes instead took us two and a half hours. Ugggghhhh!

Hopefully the weather next year will be better so that more of the OGR Forum folks can get to Paterson for Trainstock 13. In the meantime, there are only about three months 'til the spring York Meet. (And for those willing to make a road trip two weekends in a row, there's the Amherst show at the Big E in West Springfield, Mass.)

Happy Sunday everyone.  I just wanted to echo the sentiments on what a great time Trainstock 12 was especially for this forum newbie.  Due to previous commitments and the weather I showed up late so the crowd was thin and (to my loss apparently) the food was gone but everyone I met and spoke to was lovely, welcoming and extremely patient with me answering my many questions.  

Being the "Rip Van Winkle" of O Gauge (out of the hobby for 30 years) I am overwhelmed with all the changes and developments but am excited to get back into it and share the fun and joy with my young son and hopefully pass the torch.

The photos on the HiRailers website don't do justice to how impressive and mind blowing the layout is and I look forward to many future visits to the HQ and to seeing you all (and those I missed) again!

Trainstock was its usual great time.  Unfortunately, attendance was a little light due to the fear-mongering by the media weather people.  Those who braved the weather had a great time.  We appreciate all who came. 

Below is a video from Trainstock 12.  It starts with welcoming the attendees and then goes through a few items we had for sale and to raffle off.  At the 5 minute mark it segued into a tribute to the 2 members we lost this year, Bob Bruno & Marty Fitzhenry.

My thanks to the NJ HiRailers for a great TrainStock 12...............by fortune, the snow held off for at least awhile.  The food was great, as was the welcome "vibe" from guests and the HiRailers themselves. Vinnie is responsible for my belt stretching a bit.......and again, the sandwich bread was so tasty that I could've been rude by throwing away the salami and ham and gorge on the bread alone.  Loved the Ballantine train....Loved the subway train......

Thank you to the NJ Hirailers for the nice tribute to our friend, Marty Fitzhenry. I personally lost a Sunday NFL foe since we rooted for opposing AFC East teams but always remained friends and friends in the hobby. Going to miss his harassing texts comes football season.

By the way, you must be a large train club to have split duties for the vice president- operations and administration! Guess our club is little ducklings compared to the big ducks there! Lol!

Hey all....i visited NYC sites the day before TrainStock....saw the Freedom Tower....then went to TrainStock...the NJ HiRailers put American beliefs and tenacity in perspective....gotta love 'em!
