Hello All,

First I hope that this post is okay to post here........anyway........

On Tuesday December 30th, my son Dominic and I made the trek from Massachusetts down to Train World in Brooklyn via Amtrak and the NYC Subway system.

The trip was part of a Christmas promise that he could get a Norfolk Southern diesel for the layout. It was a great day and the staff went out of their way to help a 13 year old decide what type diesel he wanted. Dad was just along to pay for it, I was allowed to pick up a few items to!

The weather was beautiful and we walked about two miles down Church Ave to McDonald Ave taking in the sights and stopping to check out some stores. After this walk (just a few more blocks Dad!) we arrived, and it was amazing walking around and talking with the staff and just taking it all in.

We took the elevated F train back from the Ditmas Ave stop to Penn Station. This stop is just a few feet from the store and the Downtown platform you can see into Manhattan and the new Freedom Tower. We had dinner and relaxed on the Acela home. After all the looking and thinking a new Williams by Bachman GP-38 in NS livery was purchased and now working hard for the D&F Railroad!

Hope you enjoyed a little different NYC Christmas Story

He always seemed to have what I wanted.

Great story of father and son.  Way back when there weren't any home computers the way you bought trains was go to a store or send away for lists from collectors.  I bought a number 97 coal elevator from a guy with a list named Peter Bianco.  I was 13 at the time and Pete sold from his basement.  HSince we both lived in Brooklyn he included a note in the box that since we were almost neighbors maybe I should stop by his house to see some trains.  He was a little surprised when he opened the door to see a 13 year old kid and his father.  It was the start of a pretty good friendship that lasted until Pete passed.  Needless to say my father broght me to the first Trainworld.  The memory lasted forever as your boys will last with him
