trouble uploading sound file

I am having trouble uploading a sound file to my engine. The details:

Engine - 20-2251-1 proto 2 system installed in SP U50C dummy chassis. Engine operates as normal with UP U50 parameters.

Sound file - I want to update the engine with the sound file from 20-2541-1 SP U50C.

Error:

I have a version I3a TIU with version 5.0 DCS installed. I am using the version 5.0 consumer downloader with a serial to USB cable. As you can see from the left image, the software is finding the TIU installed on COM3 but the TIU can't seem to find the engine. I am performing this on a separate section of track which is not connected to my layout.

Any ideas on what could be the issue?

Could be a bad board. However, one thing that sometimes helps is to power the locomotive with DC through the fixed channel.

What transformer are you using? An electronically controlled transformer like the Z1000, ZW-C, etc. will be more likely to cause an issue than a pure sine wave transformer.

Does the locomotive run normally now?

I am using a 135 watt Lionel brick to power the TIU through the fixed channel. The engine runs just fine, its UP identity is intact. I did notice that the catalog says the SP engine is a 3 volt system and the UP engine is a 5 volt system. Could this be an issue?

Sure, you can't load a 3V file into a 5V system. The loader should have complained. What is the exact name of the sound file you're trying to upload?

BTW, did you use the Retry button?

the sound file name is:

P051PF3U50C____ALL0505012dFIN.MTH

I did use the retry button several times with the same result each time. If the answer is that 3 volt sound files are not compatible with 5 volt systems that works for me. I just wanted to get rid of the "UP 5000" part of the dialogs.

That's your problem, you have a 3V file, it won't load into a 5V board.
