At a small local train show yesterday here in AZ we were running my friend's new set of UP Alco PA's (set no. 20-21000) when the power unit started to make some weird noises. Started as a kind of whirring sound, louder at higher speed. So we re-lubed the power trucks and it got worse. Kind of a whirring-chattering noise. On further investigation we discovered a lot of play with the small idler gears that interconnects the driven axles on both trucks. To the point where the small gears could easily be deflected about 15-20 degrees off alignment on their axles.
Anyone else had anything like this on this generation of Premier diesels?
Thanks,
Rod
