Trying to ID the truck for MTH 20-21422-1 (SD45)

Unfortunately, with the changes at MTH, your repair shop is likely in the same boat as many of the rest of us - unable to research and locate parts. While MTH Parts is not likely to be bringing a huge inventory of all parts, I would try to reach out to them ASAP so they have the opportunity to potentially offer to bring you what you need.

Edit: I am not intending to excuse the repair shops inferred lack of communication, but provide a possible explanation.

What gears on the truck? inside? outside?

I'm just asking as I have not run into this. What did it do, run erratically?

In the search box on MTH part site, enter 'truck'. On page 3 the are a slew of 6 wheel diesel trucks. You will need the original one to compare pictures, may of them look the same.

I'm getting this 4th hand.  So who knows the truth or what is really wrong.

The well known shop in Eastern PA has a warranty repair guy off site.  The repair guy communicates with the shop who then communicates to my son, who then tells me.

The engine would sort of stutter a bit at slow speeds.  My initial thought was the tac reader, but the shop is telling my son the truck gears are bent.  I have no idea which ones or how badly.

Me...I would have just run it faster.  I only saw this problem when the engine was at a snails pace.

So my confidence in the "New" MTH company is no better than the old MTH company.  I contacted them on their website and told them what I was looking for and would be willing to pick it up at York.

Crickets...

That will be the first booth I visit tomorrow at York, but my confidence is not high they will have what I need.

I had a very nice discussion with a gentleman who was teaching people how to use their web site.  They had very little for sale, although I did buy some PS2/3 couplers.

The website seems very difficult to search.  You have to really know what you are looking for or you will get zero hits.   You also have to know some of their syntax.

For instance ,just to get into the ballpark he had to type... 6-wheel truck / powered / 3/2 in the search bar exactly like that.  Even then there were 11 hits.  I could manually discard a few.  They he said they are trying to photograph everything.  So just hold you part up to the screen to see if it matches.

IMHO, not "Simply the best way to run a railroad".

Why would bent truck gears only affect low speed performance?

Standing here in York, on a Saturday reviewing the forum. So, you are not pleased with how we have attempted to organize a 30 year mess. The drivers seat is open if anyone else would like to take over driving!

if memory serves me correctly I did help you identify the truck you needed? Personalized service by the same person who built the site, but still unhappy? What more can we do to satisfy your need for a 6-wheel truck?

I would like to know.

Sorry if I offended you Mike.  Read the first part again.  "I had a very nice discussion with a gentleman who was teaching people how to use their website."

But frankly, if you have to teach people how to search a website, well then I'm guessing you will have trouble getting customers to find and buy your stuff.

Just my opinion.   I appreciate what you are trying to do.  Hopefully, I'm wrong and it will be a big success.

Just this past week I frequented the new MTH Parts site and searched "GP35 pilot" as I was considering purchasing a custom run GP35 from Pat's Trains. Since I model in 2-rail I was curious to see if MTH still kept scale wheel pilots in stock. Anyhow, my search yielded about 4 pages worth of results but I found what I was looking for about halfway down the first page. So, I was satisfied with the new search feature.

Unfortunately, since MTH no longer makes scale wheel GP35's I was informed that it's not likely these will be available and there are none in stock. The new search worked nicely and I had an informative exchange with the parts dept.
