Hi guys,
I'm trying to locate the Worm Gear Drive shaft for a Union Pacific RailKing PS2 4-8-4. MTH 30-1240-1 The motor seems to run fine but the worm gear that is attached to the Dog Bone Drive Shaft is stripped. I think the gear assy on the wheels is OK but wont known for sure until I replace the drive shaft gear. TIA!!

We haven’t gotten to the RK FEF’s yet, however, I believe the below part number should be the same as your model. As you can see, the overall length is provided in the picture. This shaft also fits the RK GS4, & RK N&W J, …..both Northern type 4-8-4’s..
Measure your shaft, and compare that to the listing I’ve provided. I’ve also included the separate bushing, as it’s a separate sale part. That separate bushing, which goes on the end, is a common fail point, for engines under poor maintenance……

Did you check the MTH parts site? Also, there might be other large RailKing steam locos that use the same part.
It's good that the worm shaft is replaceable. If you can get the part, it's a relatively easy fix.
