It has been a while since my last post. I have been doing G gauge and HO so it was nice to get back to O. Here are 3 tug boats. The small white one and the red one are Frenchman River kits. The blue one is from Sylvan. I think all of the kits are still in production. Total build time for all 3 was 17 hours. The picture of the 3 together is on my layout.

Stu-- the boats look great!! I built some HO boats and added O scale doors/details. . Compared to the others, do you think the white one could use a little splash of color? nice work, John A
John, the white boat is work boat for the coast guard station on his layout so we painted it white. if you do an image search on line for coast guard work boats 1950 you will see the earlier pre-stripe boats were mostly white.
Nice work, I like the Tugs.
Very cool! I need to make some space for one of those.
This looks very much like an WW2 US Army tug built during the war, a few of these made it to the seaports here, there was one here in DC a while back called the Yankee. I made a model of it for a friend who worked on one during the war, a very neat little tug. You did a great job on your tugs.
John
Very cool!
I've never bought anything from Frenchmanriver ... but I know that he is a nice guy. I wish he made a "railroad tug" in 1/48
What is that other tug in the background? (Looks like named "Hercules")
Jim
Great work as usual Stu!!
Andre.
Here is a closer picture of the red tug "Hercules" before I painted it and added some detail. This was a home built tug that I purchased at a local train show about 16 years ago. The seller had just purchased the Lionel tug and didn't need this one. It is named after the Steam Tug Hercules which is part of the San Francisco Maritime Museum.

That Revel Harbor Tug was one of the first kits I ever built in the mid-50s. I actually built it twice. The first time when I was about 10, I didn't know anything about masking and just painted the hull freehand...ugh! The next time was a couple of years later and I did a little better... operative word "little". I've always had a soft spot in my heart for that kit since it was one of a very small number of revel marine kits that actually had railings. All the tugs look great... as usual.
Hi Stu & Firewood
This is the time of year that I am looking for projects for this up coming winter building season. This is on my wish list. Below is a photo of the annual tug boat race on the Detroit River. This race can also be found on YT. https://www.youtube.com/user/boatnerd
I did not take this photo, Source: http://www.jwwestcott.com/
Thanks for the Tug Boat Information: Gary

Stu,
Very nice job on the tug models!
Just a plug for the San Francisco Maritime Museum. It is part of the National Park Service, located near the Fisherman's Wharf area, and definitely worth spending a couple of hours and the modest admission fee!

Paul,
Check out the Sylvan site. It is the all white tug in the top right picture.
