Got this neat new engine a week ago, and while I love it, it has two tendancies that I'm not keen on- Help.

1- the whistle seems half the volume of the bell...why?{...speaker in the engine is weird..and could they make that dang tender plug in any smaller for us ham handed folk?!}

2- giving a slight downward push on top of the cab tends to make the engines nose raise up till it hits the bottom of the leading trucks screw, like it can pop a wheelie almost...add a thin washer to combat that or leave it? Sans leading and trailing trucks the engine sits level with no rocking tendancies, but that leading trucks spring is pretty pushy - might ease off thru use. It's almost like the engine is tail heavy with the trucks on.

Almost didn't reply, as I am not sure that I can help, but:

1 - The spring will not "ease off" from use.

2 - The loco seems tail-heavy because it probably is; there is nothing wrong with adding

weight inside the boiler/smokebox area. Take it apart; look around. I use lead pieces

cut from a lead roof vent that I bought from Home Depot; fishing weights can be

useful. Use silicone or Walthers Goo to attach them.

3 - these locos, which are actually S-scale/O-gauge, cute, but sort of marginally engineered, can be tuned up with weight and spring changes.

4 - I used 2 of them (the chassis and pilots) years ago to scratch build a freelance Beyer-Garret (4-4-2+2-4-4) and discovered their flaws then. But - they're OK if you fiddle with them.

5 - that irritating small tender tether is a great thing electrically, though.

Sorry I don't know more; I never used mine - except to see if they ran - before I started

taking them apart.
