No.  Station sounds are triggered by selecting the ID of the car and initiating the dialog.  The only way they would conflict is if given the same ID as the engine.

What are the MTH products that has disintegrating trucks?

The station sounds diner can be programed with it's own engine ID and if there is talk over it is due to you leaving that ID the same as one of your engines that is on the track.

MTH had several passenger cars that had the truck issue. All of those were the older built by Samhongsa like the original WARR passenger cars. Stay away from older products and you shouldn't have any issues.

It is true that the Lionel Station Sounds cars do not talk over the locomotive if you program a different ID#. HOWEVER - in order to operate the automatic sequence of the train arriving at the station, announcements being made, and the train starting up again, all at the push of a single button, the S/S car must be programmed to the same number as the engine, or combined in a TR number, which has the same effect. So, if you try to use the arrival/departure sequence feature, the diner and the locomotive WILL talk at the same time, ruining the effect. So, the very best feature of the Station Sounds car becomes, for all practical purposes, unusable. This is disclosed in the instruction manual of at least some of the S/S cars. "It's not a bug, it's a feature." So, you have to do your arrival/departure announcements manually and toggle between the engine number and the car number for the pre-arrival and post-departure announcements.

I have been told that there is a way to overcome this using a Legacy control system. I cannot personally verify this, since I don't have Legacy.

Thanks gunrunner, I did not know that!

I am not sure there is a single answer to your question.  I have the Lionel Southern Crescent set from 2003 that came with the PS4 engine and four heavyweight cars and also purchased the Station Sounds diner that was offered later.  I have the engine and the diner programed with the same number  and when I press the 7 button, the diner makes the announcement and then the engine makes it's announcement. They do however talk at the same time when the 2 button is used (but the engine sounds are that garbled unintelligible verbiage).

Happy railroading,

Don

That's interesting. The last time I tried that was with a Weaver Milwaukee Road F6a 4-6-4 and a Lionel Milwaukee Road heavyweight diner. Using the 7 button, the engine and the diner talked at the same time. This was in the automatic arrival/departure sequence. I haven't tried it with other combinations, and the instruction book for the diner did warn that would happen.

Don: were you operating in the automatic sequence, or just using the announcements one at a time?
