From what I read here is you don't like the idea of paying a custom price for custom paint matching work? So time to think outside the box. Take what ever it is you want to match the paint with to any hobby shops (not necessarily trains, but RC planes, cars, crafts, etc.) within a reasonable radius, maybe even a Lowe's or Home Depot. Find a small (under $5 or $6) quantity of the color you want match to. I'll assume you are NOT valuing the costs of your time or traveling expenses (58.5 cents per mile) into the paint costs. Then buy yourself a Preval (about $10 at ACE, TrueValue, etc.). Find a scrap of material similar to what you want to paint and, practice with your newly acquired paint sample before painting your engine. Then paint away! Or maybe custom paint matching/packaging doesn't look so expensive after all? Just my snarky opinion.
