I have a PS-2 steam engine that will power up and run on my test track, but when I place it on the main line it isn't even recognized. I have a PS-3 diesel that will power up on the test track AND the main line. Signal strength is 10 for both on the test track and 10 for the diesel on the main line. Any ideas what the problem might be?

Check the tether connection on the steamer.
Also, some details would be helpful, e.g., MTH model #, etc.
Double check the wiring.... Ps-2 requires tiu red output to center rail. Ps-3 doesn't care.
One other thought..... Could this be a battery problem with the ps-2? It the engine forgetting it's ID and reverting back to one created when it had a good battery?
Thank you Barry.
It's this stuff (above) that kept me in TMCC and it's descendants. I do have basic DCS (Remote Commander), and when it works, it works, but if often just doesn't. After a while, you don't pick it up much, and the PS2/3's wind up on the shelf.
TMCC/etc is not perfect. Not at all. But it hardly ever has a problem...at all. It's an friendly tool.
I guess some of my money has been saved, as there are PS2/3 locos upon which I have passed just because they were...PS2/3.
I reversed the + and - AC connections to the main line and that fixed the problem. I must have accidentally flipped positive and ground feeding the mainline when I was removing 110 VAC wiring under the table for the Lemax buildings we are replacing with O scale buildings from Woodland Scenics, MTH, etc. and adding lighting for those, which is 12 V grain of wheat I bought or the bulbs that came with the buildings.
Don't I feel like a DUNCE! Thanks so much for the replies; they really helped.
