While I realize there is no cross pollination between PS2, and PS3, when changing sound sets, I’m wondering if the same is true for 3v vs. 5v PS2 systems, when entertaining a swap from a 3v into a 5v? Any thoughts? Thanks.

There are many 5V engines that have a converted 3V file on the MTH site for upgrades / board swaps. There is no path from a 3V file to a 5V board. FWIW, the PS32 Stacker board accepts 3V PS/2 sound files. The full up PS/3 boards are only compatible with PS/3 sound & chain files.

Thanks, John. Is there any way to tell which 5v engines have a converted 3v file?
Here's from a product page with both files listed. The original 5V file and the upgrade 3V file are both available.

Thanks. If I’ve seen that, I haven’t taken notice of it. Not clear though; will 3v upgrade file go into 5v system and replace original 5v file?
Also, I see the 3v download, but how do I convert that download into listenable format?
Hi you do not convert the sound file to install into the engine you download the sound file and open sound file to install into the engine using dcs loader program!

You download it the sound file to your PC and then use the open source MTH sound file editing program ADPCM.

Again, you download both the sound file and the program ADPCM. http://www.silogic.com/trains/RTC/ADPCM_1.6.4.zip
You install and run the ADPCM program following these instructions http://www.silogic.com/trains/ADPCM.html#Installing.
You open and analyze the sound file, then you play the entire file or individual sound clips.
Guys, using ADPCM won't convert a 3V file to a 5V file or the other way. That has to be done with the tools only MTH has.
Actually you could load a PS-2 3V into a PS-3 board, just need to load flash code. Whether all the light features work would be the debatably part. Not sure why you would want to since PS-3 should have better sounds and features. G

Again, plain as day, I read that as needing to listen to the file just to hear it. NOWHERE in that is uploading to an engine or converting it to a specific engine format.
#1 LISTEN to different sound files download using the computer ADPCM to find the one you like the best BEFORE wasting time loading sound files to the engine (which can take several minutes each) only to find out that's not the one you wanted, when it finally plays back.
#2 addressing the specific details of format and so forth for actual uploading of the sound file to the engine.
