Yes, but its not gonna happen soon. The assembly complexity I was told would make it prohibitive to produce. Look for a price tag starting around 2500 or more. Look for a release date later than 2020...

If you can say who gave you that info (or just whether it was it was someone in product development at Lionel) I'd be interested to know - mainly because if that's an "official" view I won't waste time trying to persuade Ryan K. or Mike R. to undertake this project.

Pity if it is Lionel's opinion but they must know better than the rest of us what would actually be involved.

I'm wondering which part of the Veranda would be that difficult to make today?   I seem to recall the long delay with the initial release centered around the high rejection rate of the die-cast shell and the change from four Odyssey motors to just two Pittman motors and the Odyssey board.  Given how well the equally complex diecast ES44's castings turned out,  I think the Veranda today would be easy work.   IMO, The only reason  it has not been reissued is high production cost VS demand.  My guess is they probably feel the numbers aren't there..

I asked at York, and that was the reply from Ryan... but don't let that stop you, and maybe it can be changed. So,  upon hearing this, I immediately ran over so Nicholas Smith Trains and bought a gently used one for 575.

Joe,

You know I have not even cracked open the one I own so you may be right in that it was a "shoo away boy don't bother me". But I have to believe the Lionel people were very sincere about their products at York.

Make it just a Legacy Veranda Turbine so we don't have to pay the VL premium and I would say yes.

I feel the same way the only thing I am concerned about is if they start to remove things to save cost maybe not go with the unique headlight or the smoke units I know mike did with his.  In this era of cost vs profit they may just do that look what they did with the sound they made them somewhat generic

I have the Lionel and the MTH versions. Both are great with the Lionel being superior in its die cast body and a little different details. Both run great but the Lionel one has superb sounds with one smoke unit kicking off and the front one kicking on with the turbine sounds going on.

Quite happy with them. I've been toying around the idea of getting a 2nd Lionel one with the prices I'very seen at York.

Bought mine here on OGR and happy to have it!

I don't model UP, as I limit myself to roads that ran south & east of I-71 in Ohio (even if it wasn't built yet), but I'd be hard pressed to turn down an unpainted version to do a custom livery for my fictitious "Polar & Ohio" RR.  Love the engine, & fits the era I model.  Unless they could really blow me away w/new features, a LEGACY verison would be preferable to VL, though.

Would really like Lionel to make Vision Line Veranda Turbine.  Anyone else keen on this?  The earlier version was way cool!

No. The one I have is just dandy.

I'm wondering why when it comes to Lionel, common sense rarely kicks in.  Why would anyone pay upwards of 2K for a reissue of the TMCC Veranda when that excellent version can be had today for about 1/4 the price in the secondary market?  I think if Lionel were to spend the bucks and offer a VL die-cast version of a UP Turbine, hopefully it would choose the most powerful of the gas turbines, the massive Big Blow over just another boring reissue, the Veranda.

Actually I believe the Big Blow nicknamed carry-overed to the second generation UP Veranda turbine as well.  The first generation turbine that burned bunker C oil was huge... I'm not big on the propane version, which was short lived but I agree with your statement if the thing is going to be 2,500.00 at least consider the first generation or even the  3 generation electric turbine.. which was even bigger...

I have all the turbines form MTH with the exceptionof the veranda adn I love all of them. They are soo cool. My favorite is the #80 coal turbine which is just ridiculous but I just dont see any of them as a Vision Line product. Legacy absolutly but Vision line now just seems to mean nice box and higher price tag

Vision Line is at its best when it is a locomotive that was never before made by Lionel.  A Legacy Veranda seems appropriate.

I agree, Keith. What feature(s) could be added to make it Vision? It's been a while (catalogued in 1998) since the last issue - a Legacy version would be appreciated and more affordable.

I tried putting in a plug with Lionel for this engine to be re-released and made reference to the support on this forum for that idea but got the "we don't discuss future product releases" answer, which is understandable. JDaddy's info is the best available, which is that cost would be prohibitive. Also I think that with a Legacy version you might lose the nice lighting features, which are unlike any in an existing Legacy model. There's always hope but don't hold your breath.
