Hello OGR Forum!

I'm looking for some clarification/help regarding volume and sound on my new Visionline Triplex. To me, the sound is weak compared to a standard Legacy locomotive; I've tried everything from a reset, to increasing the volume following every instruction in the booklet. I'm using a Cab2 to control my trains, and every time I increase the volume I hear the bell indicating the command was received, however it just doesn't sound as loud as it should for a Visionline engine. You can barely hear the chuff coming out of the engine. Am I missing something? Could this be an issue, or is it just the nature of the locomotive? I expected more for $2,499.

I took a video comparing it to a standard Legacy 4-4-2 I purchased last year, and to be honest, the chuff and overall depth of sound on the 4-4-2 is much stronger than the Triplex. I have other Visionline engines that are ridiculously loud, and the Triplex pales in comparison. This is only one of a few issues I've had to fend off with this locomotive out of the box..... so I'm hoping it's only up from here. Thanks!

Does the speaker in the locomotive have a enclosure over it?

We had a similar problem with the latest VL BB release.

It doesn’t sound like it does, in the engine at least. The first time my engine started up, the tender didn’t start up, and the speaker sounded tinny and weak. Not sure what else to do at this point - maybe see if there’s room for an enclosure?

Well, someone here just found out that the locomotive sound system wasn't working at all, that will cut down the volume.  A quick diagnostic, ring the bell and see if you hear it, it only comes from the locomotive.  The crew talk comes from the tender, another quick test.

I just did a quick check, mine is easily as loud as the VL-BB, no volume problems here.  I also did verify that both the tender and locomotive sound systems were working properly.

All good, John. Everything checked out fine. I appreciate the input. I don’t know, maybe I’m going crazy, but I certainly expected the chuff to blow the roof off, similar to my VL Niagara.
