Wall display cases?

Here is a mug cabinet I built , but I've done train storage cabinets like it. It has sliding glass doors on this one.. Bob

Nice.  That's what I do.  My best ones are sunk into the wall, and finished with oak.  I carve slots in the shelves to hold the flanges, and on the front, which is generally 1 1/2" high, I carve a deep slot on the bottom and a shallow slot on the top.  That way a long skinny strip of Plexiglas can be slipped upward, then dropped into the shallow slot.

Sliding glass doors and the shelves should have grooves routed in them so you don't have to use track.  Routing out grooves that the flanges will fit into helps the models look like they are sitting on rail, keeping them in line and preventing them from being accidently knocked to the floor.
