Hello all,

We're looking to get started on the water portion of our layout and need some advice.  The area is going to be a bay but with limited clearance between the surface and the bridges going over it we don't want the "water" to be too thick.  The substrates vary...main area is plywood but there are areas around it that are homasote board...so there are butt joints where the two meet...we'll fill any gaps and I assume seal everything before applying the "water".  Will we have any issues with cracking or anything where two substrates meet, particularly as the table gets moved, bumped, etc?   Been looking at the Woodland Scenics Realistic Water...also heard Envirotex is a good option.  Probably going to do a mock up first and let my son play around with trying some different things for adding small waves, color, etc. before doing it on the layout.  Been doing plenty of research but love thoughts, suggestions, etc. from you guys who have experience.  Trying to keep it relatively simple but want it to look nice.
