First let me say that I love this engine. It runs so smoothly and looks good doing it. The problem is the smoke unit. She runs dry every few minutes and when I go to refill it, it spits a bit. This is fine when I am running for myself, as I can run it a few minutes and then let it cool down, then refill and start again. When I have company, however, it becomes a pain. Does anyone have a fix for the smoke? Would I damage it letting it run dry?

When Jerry Williams owned the company, he stated that you could run the smoke unit dry without damaging the smoke units.  I don't know what Bachmann's position is.

i don't run smoke fluid in any of my Williams or Williams by Bachmann engines.  The smoke doesn't look very realistic and sputters as you reported.  If the smoke units are burned out in the Williams engines, I don't care.
