I just got one of these recently and the sound is OK but becomes tiresome after a while. I can't find any switch to turn it off. Anybody figure this out yet?
Bob, I got the Union Pacific model. I wanted the Atlantic Coast Line Version but they were out of stock so I settled for the U.P. It runs great. In fact it goes like a rocket if you give it too much throttle. The engine sound is too loud for me and I'm hard of hearing but the whistle is a little too quiet. Bell seems OK. I just get tired of that engine noise sometimes. It does have that diesel whine when you throttle down like a non turbo charged engine would sound. That's kind of neat. I suppose the only way to get rid of the sound would be to disconnect some wires but then you would probably lose all the sounds. They should have put an on off switch on the engine. They are also coming out with an RS3 in Seaboard livery which you would probably be interested in. One feature I like on the GP30 I got is that there is no Tru Blast whistle. It only blows when you push the whistle button, unlike other WBB later engines with the automatic crossing whistle signal that blows two long a short and a long blast with one push of the whistle button.
If I didn't already have a RS3 I'd look into this, but I recently replaced the Locosounds in my MTH Railking RS3 with the ERR Cruise Commander and new Railsounds board, now it's like a brand new engine
