Please accept my condolences for your loss!

Dogs are givers of endless love, that is why it truly hurts when they have to go......you can be happy though you'll get to see her in the next life, it's true all dogs go to heaven.!....I know it hurts now, and your dogs love will never be replaced.....but if you let yourself, you'll find another dog, but alas and allack, it'll never be the same..... Each dog has something truly special and individual to give!!!

Regards,

Mike Maurice

Don, so sorry to hear the news.  My first dog I got as a child (actually a stray that got me, LOL) spoiled me for all other dogs since.  Other dogs came and went in the family, and it's sad & tough whenever they pass away, but that first dog of mine hit me the hardest of all.

Hang in there Don, hopefully you and the Mrs. will find a new pooch that will steal your hearts and will be an OGR fan as well.

Don - I know what you're going through - I'm sincerely sorry for your loss - about 20 years ago I lost my best pal too.  Caesar was a great dog and companion to me as I'm sure yours was.  Just keep thinking of the memories you shared with him and it will bring a smile to your face for many years to come.

Regards,

Paul

Don, my sincere condolences to you and your family.  A loved pet's passing (be it imminently known or sudden) is heartbreaking.  Please allow the many good memories and joy of your Lucy bring you a smile and continue to keep your spirit up.

MartyE's post above of A Dog's Last Will & Testament is very fitting for any person to remember.  If I might also add the following quote:

It came to me that every time I lose a dog, they take a piece of my heart with them, and, every new dog who comes into my life fits me with a piece of their heart.

If I live long enough, all the components of my heart will be dog, and I will become as generous and loving as they are.

Don,

Sorry for the loss of Lucy to you and your family.  18 years is amazing and just remember all of the wonderful memories that you each gave each other.  She is still there in spirit, only gone in the physical sense.  I have been down this path before and it is definitely like losing a family member.

Also, read MartyE's poem and look at the wording and what it means.  I live by those words and while we have loss 3 within the last 3 years, we have also welcomed 3 new shelter dogs to our family.  We now have 4 total.  They are not and never will be replaced, you can only add to your family if you so choose and if you do, remember the poem.

Again, sorry for your loss.

David

Daisy and Millie join paws with Deb and me to share in your sorrow over Lucy's passing, Don.

When our first Golden, MacKenzie left us four years ago (she was 12, declined in one week) I cried buckets.  The hurt was/is incredible.  Daisy and Millie help to fill the void, but the memories of MacKenzie's own special ways of stealing your heart, making you laugh, comforting your own pains and sadness...they're there forever.

It is no small coincidence, IMHO, that dog is God spelled backwards.

Sorry for your loss of Lucy, coming from  a family where we always had a pet or two, have gone through losing our loyal friends many times,  have always adopted a new member to the family but it's never to replace the one you lost as we always keep them all in our heart. Remember all the good times you had with your loyal best friend, Lucy will always be with you in your heart and someday she will be at your side again together in the better place for all.
