Consider your job well done Mario as I have downloaded some images for show and tell and future study. Weathering to this level of detail is still something of a mystery to me. I know there are tutorials on "weathering in 5 easy steps" and that sort of thing but if it were that easy everyone would be doing it. Instead there are a few artists like yourself that have done it well enough to post pictures. I have done odds and ends on the layout but still don't have the guts to go "full engine" just yet.

My first try at the tender, I was told by a friend that "it looked like it was on the scrap line"... So, I re-dullcoted and just added more dust.  I really like the green and dark brown pastels, it really layers up really well and looks greasy!

My "secrets" (no secret, trust me) are above, and can be found in the attached PDF from Model Railroader magazine and reprinted (and found freely on the internet at Scenic Express).

 

I use a product called PanPastel weathering powders (see below), in two different kits; the Grime / Soot and Rust / Earth.  I got them on Amazon.

I use a product called PanPastel weathering powders (see below), in two different kits; the Grime / Soot and Rust / Earth.  I got them on Amazon.

I also use the PAn PAstels which I bought from Scenic Express. Have only used it on rolling stock and two diesels, Still have not got up the courage to try on a steamer
