So short story long. I have been in the hobby now for less than 5 years and being under 40 you can easily say I am youngster at a lot of this. ericstrains youtube channel has been great fun and a super resource. I took me a long time to figure out that I want to model 3 rail O scale! I trip to the National O Scale convention a a great learning experience and at the same time a huge disappointment. It was a great event for 2 rail people but not much for those who don't know the difference between O scale and O gauge. All that being said, I did pick up some good pointer and some cool stuff at that show.
Moving on I live on the east coast, and when ericstrains talked about Menards I lost my mind, due to the fact that there is not a since one with-in 300 miles of me. SO when I got a chance to travel to Michigan for work, I was beyond excited. When my co workers asked me what I looking forward to on my trip, I kept saying I cant want to go to Menards. I got more than a few looks on that. Ok yes the cars are not O scale, but hey a box car for $20! well that can be a fun toy on my shelf at work.
Short story going long... A shout out to 027TED https://ogrforum.com/...ve-a-menards-flatcar this was a great post and I have used to method to "improve" a double door WM 2 rail scale box car that I have converted to 3 rail. At the O Scale convention I picked up a number of these Hunterline weathering Mix's and while they are mainly for wood model kits, I relay like the affect they have on plastic models. They take off the shine, they mute the colors and depending on how you apple them they can streak the lettering.
A few months ago I picked up this railway express car. Tangent here I love how MTH has a Purple box and yellow box, in a second you know what you are getting! Shout out to them for just nailing that! ... Lionel... ugh so I have this box car that is 100 O gauge. It just looks like a toy and I am very unhappy with, 1 how much I paid for it, 2 just how it looks. So I am trying "improve" it. I have some pastels on order, I am attempting to use some acrylic paint on the roof. I am going to use 027ted's floor decking on the inside.
Any other suggestions or simple techniques out there?
I know this has been a little all over the place but I figure that's what this place is for, and wife can not here this again today!
