It’s not a shell and floor. The sides and floor separate from the ends and roof. Press carefully on the bottom of both ends until they begin to move. The connection is a groove, so don’t pry outward, you need to slide it. Then you’ll have to work the roof seam loose. Once you get it free, slide the roof off. I don’t think the volume is adjustable, just on or off.
Hi Jeff2035. The sounds are adjustable, It is an oval shaped disc on the circuit board with a slot for a small screw driver, this will turn the volume up or down. It works good luck Buxton Station
