All,
How were the Royal Train cars sold? I know there were 8 cars total but I’m trying to determine if they were originally sold a la carte. Anybody know? Thanks.
Cheers,

Generally back then, cars came five, two & one (if the full dome was available). Mike was behind those decisions I would guess. I bought the five car set and stopped there. If you are correct that there were eight cars then it was probably a two pack and the full dome in addition.
Bill, I think the scheme you laid out was applicable for the regular passenger sets, but the Royal Train was Pullman Bradley cars. There were six cars (3,4,5,6,7,8) with one Royal logo and two cars (1,2) with the other (crown vs crest). According to the Gold Editions list, these two “sets” were separately numbered items (1278 and1279, I think). I’m just not sure if they were sold that way or a la carte…. Thanks.

I did not buy the Bradley cars. I purchased the regular set of aluminum cars.
Are you referring to the Weaver model of the 1939 Canadian National Royal Train? If so, I was not aware that there were aluminum cars produced for this set.

Pictures would help.

The Fall 1993 Weaver Catalog on pages 6-7, a centerfold, shows the CP Royal Hudson #2860 and a CP aluminum passenger car (ribbed) named Spruce Grove. The five car set was not issued as pictured. The issued set (5 car) was smooth sided, not ribbed. I did not look up the Bradley cars but I think they were issued somewhat later after Mike was not longer involved in Weaver production.
Bill,
Your picture is of a Canadian PACIFIC set that came out with the Royal Hudson (I have it). This was a model of Canadian PACIFIC’s engine class used for the Royal Tour, which was allowed to keep the crest and adornments after the Tour due to their excellent service. I don’t believe the set you showed is intended to be representative of Canadian PACIFIC’s Royal Tour coaches, rather a generic 5 car passenger set Weaver produced to go with the Royal Hudson.
Years later (2007 I think) Weaver manufactured a Canadian NATIONAL Royal Train which consisted of a blue/silver U4A 4-8-4 and eight blue/silver Pullman-Bradley cars. This was to model Canadian NATIONAL’s contribution to the Royal Tour of Canada in May, 1939. These are the cars I’m asking about.
I’d really like to hear from people who purchased this set or dealers who originally sold this set.
Thanks.

You are correct. These are the cars that were issued with the engines in 1994. When the Bradley cars appeared later I personally did not like them so did not purchase same. Don't really see why you are getting no response on the Bradley cars. Surely someone must have purchased them.
Update: The Bradley's were first mentioned in 2003 catalog. Over the years many sets were made. All, American rail lines.
2007: G1729 CP Empress loco listed. G1286 Six Bradley coaches available as set. 2008 last catalog I have and no mention of additional cars in it.
As an aside:
Fall 2006 Catalog: G1726 Canadian National U4a Royal Train #6400
Spring 2007 Catalog: G1278 CN 6 car set with different numbers. G1279 CN 2 car set with two different numbers.
