Been working on this warehouse view-block (4 feet wide/22 inches tall) off and on. Finally got it "concreted" and put in the brick textures. All I have to do is build the crown and dock details. It was far enough along to put in place at the back of the industrial area of the layout. Thinking about building a slightly smaller one just for laughs and giggles (maybe for a diorama.)

Rich and Popsrr:

Thanks. I still have more work to do, but now it's off my workbench and on the layout. I'm thinking about a HUGE grain elevator next as part of a "modeling on the cheap" article I'm working on, but have no clue what I'd do with it.

The "concrete work" is actually pretty easy. To kill the grain in the wood, use sandable gray "rattle can" primer. For the concrete texture, use stone textured spray paint (Depot and Lowes have it -- takes a long time to dry) and for the cover coat, use a light yellowed paint like "Strawflower" or a darker antique white.  Made the bricks using Model Builder software.

I was in Portland, OR last week.  Here are a couple of photos of the beautifully restored station and a Portland & Western train passing through the station.  This train has more engines than cars which makes it a perfect prototype for model railroads.  Portland & Western is a 520 mile short line owned by the Genesse & Wyoming company.

Happy Weekend to Everyone,  Joe

Since MTH hasn't came out with a B&M SW-1 in this paint scheme.  I decided to paint one.  Now watch, Mth will have one in the 2013 vol.  LOL.  I just couldn't wait!  This is my first repaint and cannot thank Bob Dupree (The Professor) of the Massillon O gauge model railroad club for the help and guidance.  Also got to give props to Jim Abbot of HIGHBALL GRAPHICS for the outstanding decals.  Jim I will be back!  Chris Lonero eat your heart buddy!  lol

SW-1 1115 assign to work the papermill warehouse and lumberyard.

I sincerly hope that this does not mean you are dismantling your layout! I remember watching in awe as you posted weekly updates on the scenery forum envery Sunday. Many of those scenes and updates spuured ideas and solutions to questions regarding my own attempts to create such modeling.

If it is the end I hope that the resoning is that it is time for something new and we once again see your skills exhibited.

Laming,

Thanks!  I am thinking of doing post on O scale (3RS) of how i did the repaint.  I took pics every step of the way.  If I can do it, anyone can.  It was a pennsy railking (record scratch)  Sorry to all the pennsy fans! Sacriligious.

Sirt, tremendous work!  Are you doing any how to workshops, seminars or clinics? lol

Ew ew got them B&M blues!

Chris

A few from our 2 foot gauge railroad. We run scenic excursions on about 3/4 mile of track. Regular excursions run (weather permitting) weekends April, May and September. Daily June - August. Select nights in October for our Halloween train. I'm Asst. Manager and one of a handful engineers. Great fun!

A coworker brought this beauty in the other day, as a display item for Steamtown's RailFest taking place this weekend.

IMG_1876

It is a 2 Rail scale model of the Lord Baltimore with the Royal Blue train. Mostly the train was handmade by the owner's grandfather.  He thinks the model is from 1938, but doesn't know much about it.

No. 2 was the locomotive's real number, and this is very accurate for the 4-6-4.

All the interior details are handmade.  The chairs, people and the waiter.

The Lehigh Gorge Scenic Railway (Dp. Jim Thorpe Saturdays and Sundays at 11:00 AM, 1:00 PM and 3:00 PM) has a one-of-a-kind ex-UP SD50 numbered 426 (after R&N ex-Gulf, Mobile & Northern 4-6-2 425). No. 426 has a remarkable paint scheme abounding in fine details. Evergreen trees flank her cab numbers. Full-color LGSRY heralds adorn each nose. In the middle of her long hood lettering is a waterfall that represents the trackside cataract near Old Penn Haven. She looks like a custom-painted model.
