These photos show the multi-track grade crossing on my 12’-by-8’ layout completed in 2004 and still in operation. Trains of four railroads appear in the pictures – Boston & Albany, Long Island Railroad, Boston & Maine (under the coal tower) and New Haven. I built the coal tower from a wood craftsman kit by Gloor and the station from a plastic kit by Atlas O.

I was finally able to get the 3rd road number of the Atlas O Grand Trunk Western 3-bay cylindrical hoppers to make a complete set of 4 GTW hoppers. High-end O scale Grand Trunk Western freight cars are hard to find, so I now order all of the numbers at one time, if possible. These GTW cylindrical hoppers used to be a common sight on GTW trains in Michigan between 1990 to 2000.

Well, the layout has returned to its non-Christmas state, and I took a pic of my new-to-me Lionel Shell tank car unit train (with add-on chromed car) on the curve around the farm at Notch Junction.  Obviously, the ATSF train had to reroute, probably because of flooding in Kansas City, but, Wow! is this detour out of the way

This is another train I bought to honor my grandfather, who bought me my first trains.  He worked for Shell for most of his adult life, including working as a mechanic on Jimmy Doolittle's barnstorming team as one of the Shell reps helping to test lubricants (which is why Shell sponsored him).  I have a lapel pin that Doolittle gave to him in gratitude.  Grandpa's family came from Holland, and, somewhere in the past, there is a connection with the parent company.  It took me a while to find a set I could justify the $$$ for.  I finally found one less track and transformer but with all the boxes for less than half what others want for sets with them--works for me!  The add-on car is *really* shiny!  The set runs very well; Grandpa would have liked it.

Started working on a model kit of a B25 Mitchel in 1:48 scale, so it will one day be on or above my layout (still train related!!!) Painted the 3 crew figures on Thursday.

After

Turns out, I really enjoy painting figures. Good to know...

I doubt I have the patience to do that, but thats a really well done job.
