Mike, An excellent place to do something similar as I am until more space becomes available.

This week finds me in Pittsburgh for work, so I haven't gotten much done on the layout recently. We did go to a train show in Raleigh last weekend. Lucia had a blast & picked out a few freight cars for me to get. Lucia also loves lobsters, crabs & seahorses, so I had to find the new operating lobster aquarium car. Took a while, but was able to track it down for her!

Also picked up a pair of the NP U36B units - wanted these for a while -

NS 25Z heads westbound out of Altoona on 11/16/14 -

A pair of ex Conrail Geeps lead CB60 down the Cove Secondary in Altoona - 11/16/14-

NS SD70M-2 2723 leads 922 through the old CP SLOPE in Altoona on the Pittsburgh Line - 11/16/14 -

Chris - Thanks for regularly posting photos of your layout. I always look forward to seeing it each week. Love the old school look. Looks like a lot of fun!

Beeeeauuuutiful! Really, real. And your weathering of the arch-under Lionel bridge makes me feel guilty. When I first installed mine, back in 1995, I didn't even think of doing that. But now that I have learned from you how cool one can look, I have shame enough that I am not even going to show you my arch-unders. You have given me a new job.

SPECTACULAR ! And I'm not even talking about the cars! They are actually overshadowed by your beautiful scenery work. What a masterful touch you have!

FrankM (I'm saving these photos!)

P.S. I'm interested in seeing what you will do with the exposed green florists-type styro-foam hunks on the right of the second photo, of course.

My little guy submitted a video question to the Ask Choo Choo Bob show and it was answered this week. He is so excited that Choo Choo Bob responded. The experience has certainly enhanced his love of trains.

We were busy in the workshop this week! It all started with the conversion of a few Fisher-Price Geo-Trax cars to O-gauge. The gauge of the original cars is remarkably close to O, but not close enough to be reliable. We disassembled the Geo cars and glued their bodies to old plastic trucks. The result, a trio of mini hoppers. Our other project was the construction of a digger train car.

He certainly is intense about it, and lazer-focused, and appears to be careful about what he touches. You must be beyond happy. So cool, all of it.

With respect and congratulations,

Thomas, I never heard of Choo Choo Bob before, but it was great!  Congratulations to your son for getting his question asked on the video.  It looks like he is a real railroader already!

The Mobile & Ohio never had any diesels, though they had ordered some Alco DL-109's

before they merged with the Gulf, Mobile & Northern to form the GM&O (1940 or so; the DL's wound up delivered in the new GM&O's colors of red and silver), but I recently got this Lionel Legacy U28C on sale (and a good sale) that was barely lettered for some NE railroad or other (called the PRR or some such; anybody heard of that one?). The loco was a nice dark green which I liked; I did a little decaling and light dry-brush weathering,

and painted the trucks, tank and so forth a weathered black.

Here's an M&O U-boat from a world that never existed; the M&O logo is indeed accurate, and appeared on much rolling stock and many steam loco tenders:
