WEEKEND PHOTO FUN 1-23-15-??

It is a Lionel 6-25654 in 2012 signature edition catalog with the cab No.1393. The catalog shows it with a green roof and wheels but it came the way you see it in the photo. It has Legacy controls with whistle steam effect and a great sounding whistle. The minimum curve states O-54 however I've had it running on O-42 but the scale passenger cars will bind up in the curves on O-42.

Vision Big Boys sure can smoke.  We may have to run with the smoke off tomorrow, especially when more than one is on the layout!

I had to make a quick trip to south FL this week and while in Vero beach we visited the Seal Museum near there. Was pleased to catch sight of these FEC work train items.

I would never be able to run one of those with the smoke on in my house.  The detectors go off with MTH smoke set to low.  I only run smoke when I setup outside on the picnic table.

We didn't set off any smoke alarms, but we did limit the smoke so as not to bother the vendors too much.

I've been redoing my military cars.  Going from 0-27 to scale flats.  But then I ran across this one K-Line I got with three of the tan jeeps on it.  So rather than put the many jeeps on the scale cars, as this one was between 0-27 and scale, I decided to do this with them instead.

What you see is the flat car lowered about a quarter inch and trucks remounted.  The flat top was painted to look like wood, and stakes were added (for no other reason than I realized the little sticks from Michaels fit the pockets perfectly).  I also found that Lowe's has phillips head machine screws and bolts in the baggies that match many trucks holes (hint... its the smallest ones they sell)!  Thats just a FYI for you bashers out there.   Then I put on one of the original tan jeeps, a green one from another car, and a blue airport guide to round it out.  Its kinda a Jeep tribute if you will.  

Thank you.  I certainly am proud of the little guy and how well he is handling the "real" trains. He recently started using the DCS remote and refuses to take the trains over 15mph.

Mark, Thanks. Christian loves trains and the Choo Choo Bob show has a little something to do with it. I wish more people knew about the show, particularly here on the forum. This program has the power to influence kids and make a positive impact on the future of the hobby. The show was just picked up by Qubo, and airs daily from 5:00-6:00.

Qubo is a new one on me!  I'm glad Christian likes the show and trains!!

My train room addition and its ceiling layout shelf are almost finished (contractor and subs leave for good).

The diagram shows the basic main line loop around the ceiling, passing siding (left), bridge route (upper right), and future train elevator (now removable stub siding).

Amtrak Southwest Chief headed up by a BNSF loco after the Amtrak loco died due to the fuel jelling in the -42 temps in Chicago.

Attended first train show of the year. Anaheim CA. I will never complain about show cost again. $15 to park!!! Ate some of my spending cash!! Good show......LOTS of layouts. This was a On30 about 40 x 40 feet. Very nice work. A few O 3 rail but they were more toward toy like. Liked this one better.

They look like they would be more at home on the Grand Canyon, but they paid the first-class fare, the Pullman space charge, and the extra fare to ride No.17. I will bet they have something else in their suitcases to wear at dinner.

Ref the "Crescent Limited" loco question/comment above:

Southern Railway green steamers (essentially the passenger power) did not have red

roofs or tender decks. They did sometimes paint the back of the coal bunker red for

better switchman visibility from the ground in low light.

Especially in 3RO "they" insist on red roofs/tender decks on SOU green steamers.

I have repainted all mine an appropriate black or green. Looks better, too.

The urban legend is that there is a photo of one of the Ps-4's at a shop with a red roof;

this is most likely red lead primer before the final painting.
