Christopher,

Very nice layout. I was happy to see the Lionel MPC 8030 GP 9. That engine along with the IC porthole caboose, were some of my first purchases of new trains back in 1970. I had just renewed my interest in Lionel trains around 1968.

It is hard to believe how much this hobby has changed during the past 45 years. I hope the little guy can carry on the hobby for us.

Thanks for sharing the pictures.

I've seen this before during the Atlas Woodside "Reefer Madness" epidemic. Some of the afflicted individuals ended up building 6-inch to the foot woodside reefers inside their homes and clubhouses. Sad, sad situation. Hopfully, once the replica has been completed it will be put to a more practical use.

I saw a set just like this at my LHS the other day.  It was going for $325.  Is this a good buy?

Any way picked up this set from 1988 still with shrink wrap on it.

DSCI0259

DSCI0260Then I went ahead and bought this

2346 B&MWith that guess no more trains for a while but to me 2 great add-on's to my collection

On ebay they are going for $300 - $450 plus shipping for sealed sets. used or unsealed not sure one guy on there has a unsealed set for $295 plus shipping at least at your local hobby shop you can see it I would see how he reacted to a offer of $275 and see where he goes from there but if used I might try even lower as you can get a new sealed set on ebay including shipping $340.00 http://www.ebay.com/itm/Lionel...;hash=item27fbdf9e6d

For me it for time being anyway will be kept sealed and is put away till I can build a display shelf for it.

They both are very nice sets and at one time the Burlington went for around $700.00 or so. If I recall the Chessie Sd40 had an issue with cracking at the front and rear screw holes ...

Nothing really new today........just a thought and a reminiscence...........

These pics are always my weekly favorite!

Once again Peter on the Putnam Division and Christopher2035 have set the standard when it comes to family train photos! Thanks, guys, I really enjoy these type of postings. Since imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, here's my contribution:

Great photos, reminds me of the days (1960's) when my dad, brother Steve and I took over the entire full basement of our home in Old Tappan, NJ and build a massive totally immobile layout. no plans, no idea, off the cuff design. My sister and mom were completely over run by boys and their toys. It was an Olympic event for them to get to the washer and dryer.

Christopher, Peter, B&OBob,

Great family photos of families enjoying trains!!  I can appreciate it very much in a negative sense.  I have been the loan wolf in my family who likes trains.  I did not have anyone else interested in trains growing up save an uncle who took a brief dive into trains before returning to his first love RC airplanes.  I bought my first set at 12. My daughters and wife do not get interested in trains.  They support my hobby and encourage me, but just have a passing interest.  Maybe we will have a grandchild some day who will enjoy Pap's trains.

Great photos, guys!!!
