I've always liked the beautiful scheme used by the NP on their passenger trains. I guess it started with the American Flyer 'North Coast Ltd' back in 1955/56 and their striking PAs with the silver trucks. It was only within the last 10 years or so that I learned the NP never had any PAs - Just F units and the trucks were black. Oh well... A fantasy job but still good-looking.
Just picked up this handsome early Williams set from a Forum member this week. Track power is not on at the club during this stage of construction but I wanted to see it stretched out anyway, even without lights. ABA w/5 18" cars. Baggage, Observation and THREE Domes. Ain't she pretty?
Caught this scene last week on a NYS&W freight line that runs through our town here in northeast NJ. These two units (Siemens generators? Not sure what exactly they were.) were hoisted via two large cranes and placed onto oversized-load tractortrailers for the last leg of their journey.
Sam she sure is sweet!
I did a favor for someone and he brought me these two beautiful pictures of engines still in service today . He took these photos himself and told me some info about these engines , but unfortunately I can't remember what he told me.lol I'm pretty sure he said something about a narrow gauge line
I will hang these up in my new train room someday , maybe you guys can shed some light on these engines.
Thanks, Alex
CHESSIE1971, these are great cars and they re huge. Goods pics showing it off. The earlier cars issued had separate piping added to the underside. Then they eliminated it. Still I'm glad Lionel decided to do scale cars. For me it works.......Paul
Nothing new model train wise this week. Daughter and grandkids arrived via Amtrak Cardinal over the weekend so I did get some real train action. Tried to imagine the huge C&O Chessie Turbine pulling into WSS during it's short life.
Right now it's car show season.......
Driving to the show on US 219 which is about the same, minus armco, as it was in 1946 when my car was new. As soon as I get a few thing ties up on my bench work....track goes down.....can't wait.
Thanks Paul!!!

Those would be two narrow gauge tourist railroads in Colorado. IIRC they run on old Rio Grand lines that were never upgraded to standard gauge. I remember riding the Durango & Silverton 20+ years ago on a family trip.

Happy Friday!!
Let's enjoy the weekend & run some trains!
Kids enjoying running some of their trains -
NS SD70ACe 1110 leading 16T through Pulaski, VA on the Pulaski District
NS ES44AC 8045 gets 22A moving out of the siding at Newbern after taking the hole for 134
NS SD70ACe 1149 heads through Hummelstown, PA w/ an eastbound intermodal on the Harrisburg Line
N&W 611 steams through Bedford, VA on her way to Lynchburg. I chased the train from Montvale & had about 5 seconds to compose this shot.
NS ES44AC 8146 leads a late running westbound 165 past the N&W signals as it heads through Wytheville, VA on the Pulaski District
Hello Jeff, when was that car released, I don't recall seeing it in a Catalog. Very nice car.
John
Thanks John!!!! This car was released in 2015. 2016 Lionel Signature Edition.
Great photos thus far, thanks all for sharing.
I am starting on a new part of my layout just going to have room for a couple of loops of 2 rail scale track for my longer steam engines and passenger cars. Will be a loop of O Gauge inside these loops. Storage area underneath. The yard that will be hidden under the main track I just nailed down some rails straight on chip board. Cheap storage yard. The main track is laid down on old true scale roadbed and hand spiked rails. Going to roll down the green grass looking carpet roll shown at the bottom underneath everything. Then add the buildings and roads on top in the corners.
My visit to the San Luis Obispo, CA Amtrak station today reveals a few real gems:
Two Union Pacific SD70s sitting on the siding waiting for duty if needed;
A nice little train station that resembles a Spanish Mission;
A restored water tower from the days of the great steamers;
And finally, a walkover bridge that serves as a really great vantage point to watch both the Southbound and Northbound Amtrak Coast Starlight trains meet at about 3:30 PM every day! Unfortunately, I was there today at 11 AM. I spent quite a few nice times with my Grandchildren watching these great trains from that bridge.
Christopher2035,
Your children are growing fast! It's always great to see your layout photos with the children and the photo's of the real trains.
Thanks for posting them.
Scott,
Thanks for starting us off with the great photos as always!
Visited the first DuPont estate in Delaware and snapped a photo of this outside braced boxcar at the powder works in Hagley.
