It's time for WEEKEND PHOTO FUN!!!

Last Saturday I spent the day volunteering with the Class J 611 excursions. I worked in the tents while the 611 traveled to and from Lynchburg.

Saturday afternoon I worked on the train during the excursion to Walton.

Since I was busy on the train I didn't get much of a chance to enjoy the scenery.

Happy Friday!

With the layout pretty much complete (of large projects anyway) Just took some time to run some trains this week. I did take delivery of a new ABA set of MTH CNJ F3s & put them to work.

Caught CNJ SW1 1010 on a transfer run on the NY&LB -

With a couple of MTH NJT units on order, I decided to turn some of the coaches I had into cab cars so I can run in push-pull mode in & out of the terminal. Here's the first one I did - The car includes headlights & has a switch under it to turn them on /off

After seeing 611 last weekend, I had to give her a spin on the layout - Image

Speaking of 611, took a ton of shots & didn't get to go through most of them, but here are a few I did -
N&W 611 is about to duck under the Blue Ridge Parkway just outside of Roanoke on it's way to Lynchburg on the Blue Ridge District-Image

A shot I waited 3 years to get for various reasons, 611 breaks the silence of early morning as she passes a small farm just outside of Webster VA. This is a scene that has not changed all that much since she regularly ran these same rails 60 years ago-

Another shot I wanted for a while was something through Solitude on the Shenandoah Valley line. Took a break from 611 one of the days I was up there & grabbed 201 heading southbound past the increasingly rare NW CPLs -

Caught up w/ 201 again on the Pulaski District later that day & got him going under the CPLs at Radford, VA - Image

"Railroads and the Little Rascals, what more could you want. Wonderful Railroad footage. Enjoy. Looked the engine up and it worked the San Bernardino Yard. Anyone know if this is true? Don"

I watched the footage; possibly the best RR movie or show that I've ever seen - since most RR "dramas" are just dismal. Great footage.

So far as the "truth" of the locos assignment is concerned, I assume that it is true if the info came from a reasonably reliable source.

The loco "star" - Pacific 1373 - is interesting in that it is from the same class of ATSF 4-6-2 that Weaver offered in brass 15 or so years ago. I have one. They were offered in the stream-styled Valley Flyer version, and in many other road names - Weaver would even change some if the details for you.

These were Santa Fe's heavy, mainline 4-6-2 passenger power in the 20's and into the 30's, before being re-assigned to secondary and commuter runs later. So, they didn't "work the yard", though they may have worked out of San Bernardino, at least at the time of the episode above.

Had to add this; I "de-Valley Flyer-ed" it (though I like the Valley Flyer version) as well as I could; sharp eyes will notice the area above my (scratch-built) pilot still retains some VF sheet metal. That was a big brass casting that held the front of the model loco together and I was not wanting to tear into it. So - 90% success - I'm happy.

It has TA Studios TMCC and Railsounds. No cruise - this was before ERR Cruise Commander and I didn't like EOB. The gearing is pretty good so it runs well enough.

I was in Burlington, Vt last weekend. I've spent lots of time in Vermont but never in Burlington, except for the airport.

I found the Vermont Railways yard and roundhouse right along the lake. I just missed the excursion train running the day before. The train was in the yard, a blue leased diesel and a string of the Green Mountain "silver fleet" coaches.

Pics of a new basement train room for my first permanent layout since childhood.  The house we've owned for the last 20+ years had no room for a permanent layout.

These are realtor pics and is now a clean slate.  Plan is for a shop, sitting area and the layout.

This already looks like it's going to be fun. Please keep us posted on the progress of your layout.
