Two views of Boston & Maine 2-8-0 Consolidation #2403, a die-cast model by Weaver, in front of a model of the station in Phillips, Maine on my 10'-by-5' layout. The engine is an excellent runner in conventional mode. The station was located on the two-foot, narrow-gauge Sandy River & Rangeley Lakes Railroad that ceased operations around 1936. The SR&RL is an interesting prototype for a model railroad. I built the station model from a kit by Banta Modelworks.

It was then the giraffe realized he should keep his head down...

John,

That's a great picture! I've done things like that before...putting out my giraffe or cop and robber car on one of my prototype based scenes. Always good for a laugh. A couple of my friends are hardcore tinplaters and love to run their toy trains on my layout. Looks ridiculous, but it is fun. The first engine to run on my layout was my ca. 1973 Chessie System GP-20 which was the last engine to run when I switched (temporarily) to HO. Thought it was only fair to make it the first to run on the layout when I returned to three rail. Hasn't been back on there in years! I'll have to drag it back out!

With all the fires burning in CA, I thought I would post a couple of photos of the firefighting scene on the G&O.

As of this morning, there are some thirty fires burning throughout the SF Bay Area.  None of them are contained.  All of the fires were started by lighting strikes that happened a few days ago.  It was only second lighting storm that I can recall in all the many years I have lived here.  There was no rain, just lighting.

The Northern and Southern CA fires have stretched the state's firefighting capability to the limit.  I think that every piece of equipment and every firefighter that can be spared is fully committed.  There are no reserves.

I live about 30 miles from the nearest fire.  The air is smoky with soot is falling everywhere.  Many people are losing their homes, etc.  This is a real disaster.  NH Joe

Thanks Neal!  Sometimes, as you say you just got to have a little fun. What is even more bizzare is I actually converted it to 2 rail, with Kadee couplers and all.  That way I can cut it into a train

I wonder if I can pass it off as a VERY rare Lionel variation

The burly, hulking face of engine 2065 dominating the scene leaves no doubt that 2065 is ready for business and chompin' at the bit for train #401 to get the highball. However, the operator at WB Tower has them held for a passenger train that's running late and will give #401 the highball as soon as he can.

As you can see, I'm still noodlin' around on the existing layout bench work and improvising scenes to take pics of. It's a lot of fun!

Good pics all!

Here are our seldom seen D&RG 'Bumble Bee' Alcos by Lionel some years ago. Beautiful locomotives that I acquired on the bay a few years ago 'for a song'. The auction ended around 3pm on a Tuesday and had only received one bid. I think I snagged the AA pair (New) for under $300. The B unit came along about a year later for about $75 I think. Such a deal!  Here they are with club member Bill Nelson's newly purchased Lionel D&H AA's with all 6  beautiful 15" passenger cars. The sound of both diesels running together was wonderful, the horns were noticeably different as well. My set is pulling some K-Line 21" cars that have been stripped.

Odd thing happened however in that our MTH Z4000 kept tripping the breaker with both sets operating. None of the cars have LEDs to our knowledge and they were on different loops, each powered by one side of the transformer. I'm not particularly sharp on current draw and the like but we'd not had this happen before. First time with two passenger sets even though mine only had 4 cars.
