Hi guy's. Since I got us off so late last week I figured I'd get the party started early! Here is a quick video of an American Flyer signal I picked up at the Greenberg show last Sunday. It is all original. Only thing I did was clean it up and gave it a quick clear coat to give it some shine and protect the finish. Let's see your tinplate!

Short clip from last Saturdays TCA meet. Outer loop is my 400E lugging around some big Roberts Lines freight cars. Inner loop is Jeff Meyer's tin freight.

I'm closing in on finishing a couple of projects. I need the decals and lights for my Black Diamond Special Lionel cars, and a few pieces for the 4-8-4. I put the cars behind the engine, and I think they look pretty good together. Need to scrounge a couple more beater cars for repaint....a 4-8-4 needs more than three cars to pull. I'd like the engine to look like it was made to go with the cars. Should I paint the tender trucks to match the cars?

With all of the hearld boxcars Ives produced it should come as no surprise to find that company has the largest inventory of one-and-only railroad names ....here's two more
MKT- Ives 91/2 inch car
Northern Pacifice - Ives 6 1/2 inch car
FGEX - Marx
...and as a follow up - just for HandyAndy, in response to his post to last weeks thread on Weekend Tinplate Photos,
a tinplate Penn Central side dump from New Marx....unfortunately it is a prototype that never made it to production

Hornby french boxcars from the 1S serie of 1935. They where made by Hornby France and never produced for Great Britain. Nice litho on those cars wich appears more realistic.
Milk cars, cattle, frigo and baggage car.
Have a great tinplate weekend, Daniel

Tres cool rolling stock! THANKS for sharing!
THAT quality of lithography is something of a lost art! Glad you have those wonderful survivors!
The Italian company Elettren's first locomotive, just after WW2, was an Italian electric FS428. Elettren coaches are famous for their interior, the cab interior of this locomotive, which is from the fifties I assume, also looks great.
These are the matching Italian cars (first class, second class and baggage car):
And here the train is running with an added restaurant car:

As always, thanks for sharing. With European trains, for me at least, everything is a learning experience. It's so nice to see these trains.
When I finish my layout, I'm going to have to circle back to this "Weekend Tinplate" series and do a deep dive on everything I've learned here (e.g., Elettren, JEP, Hornby, et al). It's all fantastic.
Another great thing about this thread is that, due to the time difference, I can wake up with a cup of coffee and read through the rich material the Europeans have shared while I was sleeping. (Not to mention the nicely conceived posts by Robert S. Butler, our state-side insomniac...)
Oh, and in case I didn't say it, I now need that Elettren engine and passenger cars more than oxygen, even though I didn't know they existed when I woke up.

Dave,
Have you considered maybe painting some of the trim on the engine and tender to match the trim on the cars too?
picked up a few items this week.
Hornby UTLX-4739 tank car
Wyandotte 6-inch Easter truck with stamped rooster on the dump body, planning on replacing the grille with a repop because one headlight was missing.
4-car American Flyer Hummer set w track. I'm sure I have an entire tender and axle lying around to complete. Windup still works too.
Marx mini M10000 streamline engine. I don't know why I keep picking these up, I must have a half dozen of them.

The layout is seeing a major re-vamp. The top level was 2" gauge and Standard gauge, but is being converted to European gauge 1. The middle level was European gauge 1 but will have Standard and 2" gauge. Bridges on both levels will be sunk so that the ramps are at grade level. A layout is never done.

Is that Captain Cog manhandling the freight?

Yup, that is Jeff showing off his Mi-Jack operator skills
TRIPLE WOW! on that Elettren loco and carriages. AWESOME does not begin to cover it! Another Italian builder was Biaggi, who produced a beautiful and virtually hand built Etat 4-8-2 Mountain loco in 1955.

yes I have Andy...I was thinking about gold on the cab windows, and maybe a stripe on the running boards, along with red on the tender trucks.

Thanks John. Sorry we couldn't meet up on Saturday. I wasn't there that long on Sunday before I had to get to work.

Dave, tender trucks painted same red that on the passenger coachs that would look awesome !!!! In the spirit on a black diamond Ives train.
Andy geaves you also a great idea with some gold, i would also go for it.
You have done a great job on that train, it really has something special.
Daniel
Great stuff this week guy's! Love the detail on this!

thanks Daniel. It'll never be in the TCA Museum, but it turned out pretty good for stuff that came from junk boxes.

Very nice Greg...would love to track down one of these sets one of these days. What's the locomotive number?
From the archives, my 10:
This is the only one I've ever seen with blackened wheels...
PD
PD,
The engine in the set is a Type XX.
It was most commonly cataloged as a 401 and came with a Type IV tender.

Thanks Greg...I'll have to see if I can find one at York if I make it over there this year.
Paul
Well Paul, if you are going to look for the 1939 version why not go all the way and look for the 1938 version too?

Added a new addition to the Lumar Valley part of the layout. A tall gantry crane made from a Marx floodlight tower and a Marx 6" wrecker. Not my invention, saw one on e-bay and had to make one for myself.

that looks great Steve, may do one of those myself.
Steamer Dave - I say no to the red tender trucks. Keep them black. Sets off the engine better.
Hello folks!
I just finished restoring this set. It is my concept Milwaukee Road M10000. I realize Milwaukee did not run this, but that is the fun of tinplate! Tomorrow is the test drive.
Wish my painting skills and equipment were a little better. Still have some touch-ups. Also, the 884 doesn't really match. I have a 754 that I could restore to get a perfect match, but this was a big enough job for now.

I like the red wheels on the tender. I think it would look good to continue the red on the trailing truck of the engine. It would pick up the red that you already have on the engine. If you like it, do it.
