Thanks Fred, I knew you would have the answers!  Funny thing was, I actually found the Playmobil connection, but nothing about the earlier tin toys.  I suppose its actually in pretty good "scale" for the trains, but just too big for a reasonable layout.  You would probably need a giant museum style layout to make it look right.  Plus I can't imagine them shipping it to the US.  Interesting though.

There is also a Playmobil and LGB connection. It seems the two founders of their respective companies started talking after their flight was delayed and saw that Playmobil and LGB had commonalities and then worked together on their respective train lines, i.e. Playmo trai s and LGB trains are compatible and shared many parts. (We also have a very latge collection of Playmobil and LGB items, both fantastic product lines!) Miketg

Lionel didnt have ALL the fun when it came to handcars.... Here is my rough and ready Wells O' London celluloid Mickey and Minnie (Which I believe pre-dates the lionel one? Willing to stand corrected however)

I was not there in 1934/5, but according to the McComas/Tuohy book (Prewar 0 Gauge) Lionel issued their car in1934 and first catalogued it in 1935 while according to Michael Foster (British Toy Trains) Wells issued their car in 1935 and first catalogued it in 1936.

I finished cleaning up a couple of junker gondolas in time to photograph them on this years Christmas layout.

This 512 has silver New York, New Haven and Hartford script lettering and is filled with repro containers that I got at an estate sale.

This next one is the second of my dollar cars from a train show. It had almost not paint, no trucks or couplers but for a dollar who could resist. It looks pretty good in this B&M blue fantasy paint scheme.

Pardon the quality of the pictures, every time i got down on the floor to take them our monster Chihuahua ( 15 pounds) kept trying to lick my face.

Hurrah, Hurrah!!   I've been given a last minute reprieve.  My Granddaughter's coming over later this week for two or three days and wants to run trains under the tree one more time.  Even the Warden can't say no to my little Ginger Snap.  She's the little cutie in my avatar.

The last time, I had repaired some.

A while age, I had buyed repro tarpaulins for Bing, but they are to big. Now I had washed them, together with my blue work trousers at 60 degrees and then in the dryer. After them they are faded and shrunken. At last for half a hour in tea for yellowing and now they look very similar like the original tarpaulins.

In the last days, I had cleaned and repaired a few of my train indicator. Most needed new wire handles.

On Ebay I had found a Bing crane housing from the crane 13665 made around 1904. To this crane belongs a detachable crane arm, which unfortunately was missing, so I had made a new arm. For the lower arm, I have used two rails.
