What did I do on my layout? How about tear the whole thing down

Don't worry, I saved everything and it will be put back together in an even bigger basement.

All stacked nicely in the garage.

My D3R moving crew.

Jason - looking forward to the next stage...AMAZING to see it torn down...thanks for be transparent.

Progress continues on the factory warehouse walls I am scratch building.  Set up the table saw to do a "rabbet" cut on the table saw to cut a relief groove in the edge of the concrete posts and beams so that the window frames can slide under the beams and make the window frames appear closer to actual scale rather than oversized.

Also at this point have decided to use some really nice brick sheets I purchased from Fred Dole at a TCA show more than a few years ago.   Will save the Plastruct Rough O Scale Brick sheets for one of the other projects using these same warehouse windows.  Likely the next one will be a "Machine Shop" adjacent to the roundhouse.

First photo is after the painting marathon last Monday, the second photo is where I am at now with all the rabbet grooves cut and I am starting to cut up the brick sheets, and the cross beams.

Progress is looking really good Chris! I am glad you posted a update.

Got all the parts cut, concrete beams/posts, and all the brick.

Decided to weather all the individual windows and concrete beams and posts before final assembly.   Windows were dry brushed with a sand (tan) color, Concrete was originally sprayed with RustOleum Camo Khaki, then lightly blotch painted with Khaki, Sand, a few touches of black.   If the blotches were too heavy, I removed excess paint by blotting with a dry paper towel.    Figured it would be nearly impossible to weather this well once it's all adhered to the clear polycarbonate wall

Wonderful work Chris! I think it is going to be perfect as a flat. It sure paid off buying them when you did.

Keep up the great work and keep us posted! When it comes time I am going to learn more about weathering.

For two days I have been attempting to connect the MTH WTIU with the MTH DCS app.  I have followed the instructions for two days loading the app. And then deleting and reloading the App.  Plugging in and unplugging the WTIU.  Nothing helps.  The problem is the App is not recognizing the MTH DCS addresses.   App is not connecting to the TIU and nothing is happening.  No engines are listed to load.

I have not had a good day today.   Technology is not my thing, only laying track, scratch building, and scenic.

This stuff can be frustrating. I saw recently that MTH released a update for the WTIU. Maybe try installing the update and see what happens.

Glad I haven't taken the plunge yet. I'll stick with my Cab 1L and Remote Commander.

Had a frustrating afternoon too.

I powered up the layout to run my new LIRR 0-4-0. I was going to swap some cars and what better engine to put to work. First was to move a couple of cabeese to a different siding.  As I backed the engine over one of my 042's, the rear driver jumped the track at the frog. After holding my breath due to the fireworks, I reset the breaker and gave it a second try. The frog was out of alignment and was causing the wheel flange to jump the rail. I gave the frog a few taps with a screwdriver and hammer and got it back into position.
Then backing into the siding, the engine stalled and the breaker tripped again.......
Found the cause there too but I'll deal with it tomorrow. I need to insulate a bit of the center rail. The rollers are hitting both center and outer rail.

Finally got everything settled and discovered that the switch on the back end of the yard lead isn't working properly........

I turned off the power and went upstairs......

It's times like this that I want to tear the layout down and start over.......

Yeh Bob @RSJB18:

I feel your pain, my friend!!!

How is it that a layout that has been working perfectly well for years all of a sudden gets "gremlins" in it over night?????

Never ceases to amaze me......just take a deep breath, walk away, and come back tomorrow....maybe the "gremlins" have fixed the stuff they broke over night???

Recovering well Bob.......can now hardly see where the surgeon cut my throat.😎😎

Peter......Buco Australia.

Thanks Pete. Glad to hear you are recovering well.

The gremlins seem to show up whenever a new engine hits the rails......I either need to stop buying new trains or........oh wait.....Who said that!

This is why every day that my 2011 Rev L TIU and my stand alone MTH WiFi unit function, I say a before bed prayer of Thanksgiving…….

@RSJB18 The same thing happened to me, but those gremlins decided, AS THEY ALWAYS DO, to wait until I was running for company. They had been running great for me since I replaced the suitcase connectors with something better. I am always down there alone and everything is fine, but the minute I want to show them to someone else there is an issue. Like you, My engine jumped at a switch, no fireworks but both trains on two separate loops died immediately. I was once again, a bit embarrassed. Since our friends were over for dinner, not running trains, I shut it all down and went upstairs.

I don't think that my gremlins want me to share the hobby and what fun is there in that?

Mikki

@RSJB18 Bob sorry to hear that your first run with your new engine turned out so badly! For a second there I thought it was the CEO talking when it was said maybe need to stop buying trains! Lol but it was nice to realize that was a gremlin sneaking out in your thoughts.

@Mikki it always seams to happen that way. We were having a party and I ran the trains all the day before and most of the morning to make sure everything worked and it was all fine. Shut it down went to help get ready for the guest. When it came time for the show everything started up fine and maybe by the second switch it all went down hill from there. I just shut it down and walked away also.

Well I hope your all.having a great weekend!

Seth, I bought a WIU years ago and had no trouble getting it working on my I Pad. My daughter bought me a new I Phone when I retired a couple years ago. Never got it to work. I also have the Lionel setup and that also wouldn’t work on the phone. I’m not good at these things either. That’s why I have 3 remotes.
I had the same symptom your describing. I could find the WIFI and make it my network. But would get No TIU Found message.

I had her come down to the basement last time she was over and she figured it out. Go to settings on the phone. Click on Privacy. Then Local Network. It should bring something like this. Just check that they are slid on and display green. When I initially set these up. I don’t remember doing this step.

I’m reporting this morning that with the assistance of the YouTube videos and an experienced friend along with the OGR Forum I have two of my four MTH engines operating with the MTH WTIU.

I continue to have absolutely terrible communication issues between my iPhone and the TIU.  So wish me luck. And as far as I’m concerned that’s all it is, luck.  I will continue to work with my remaining engines this week.
thank you @Dave C for your input as well.
and I will paying the additional fees for updates so I can enjoy the rest of the sounds and visuals the WTIU has to offer…

good luck to all those who have not opened the black box as yet…

I’m certainly indebted to all the Forum for the assistance I receive daily ☺️
