It's the Initials, or only first letter if one word, of the name of the original poster of that article for anyone who does not have picture (avatar). Probably a new "feature" from Crowdstack!

Not everyone wants to post an avatar. It just does what Frank said and uses parts of their forum name to display initials. I think they've been around for a while.
