From what I have read in the catalog, I like it.  I can't see the price applied to the Berkshire Jr. engine but the rest of the 2.0 engines aren't too bad.  The Tier 4 is something I like and the price is fair with all the added features.  I just would like to know if a 2.0 upgrade is needed for our remote and if so, when will it be available?

The Berks are just 50.00 more at list than the Pacific engines were last year??   With added features and abilities?

Jim

These Berks are the smaller Jr. version not the bigger postwar type.  For that size, the price is too high.

EH.  Thought we were discussing the price of modern engines.

Jim

Is the 1932090 Polar Express engine at $524.99 the same size as comes in the $300 set? If so I can't justify that much. All the set engine needs is at least two chuffs per revolution and losing the "I'm the King of the North Pole" sound. Guests loved the "All Aboard", "Tickets Please" etc, but not the "King"...

Lionel had made 3 different sizes of Berks in the modern era. Large 1:48 scale, smaller postwar 726 size most recently done in LC+, and even smaller Jr. Berk most commonly found in Polar Express. LC+2 looks to be the Jr. Berk.

I just finished watching the Ryan & Dave episode from yesterday. It was a half hour show on the new LC+ 2.0. It answers some of the questions about them. Sounds promising ( Yes, as long as the work out of the box).

I watched it also!  The sounds were great!  And I'm glad they addressed the separation between the engine and tender!  I also hope the run right out of the box !! I want the Southern Berk (regardless of which size it is) and the LC Southern engine.  Its exciting to be around during this huge transition in model railroading!

What do I think about LC+2.0?  Seems like an excellent next step in bringing these command technologies together with interoperability.  The Ryan and Dave show mentioned further additional merging of these command technologies in the next evolution (2.1?).

I recall that wen LC was first introduced, and again when LC+ was introduced, the nay-sayers worried about how LC techologies were incompatible with Legacy, and some worried that Legacy would eventually be dropped.   Well, now we know these issues are unfolding:  technologies are merging, 1) with an LC+2.0 technology integrated with TMCC; and 2) Legacy that incorporates LC+2.0 technology.   Still two different levels of command control features.

I don't like any of that Techno stuff, It's all beyond me. But that's just my personal preference.

Don't let other's opinions dictate what you like and what you like to run. I like post war and

am starting to get into prewar tinplate. I think I like the older stuff because I like working with

my hands and I can fix the older stuff, where as the newer locos with elec boards have to

either be sent away and/or taken to you local hobby shop. The last time I helped a friend work

on his Lionel Mallet. The local hobby shop charged $280.00 to replace two boards in the tender.

Popi, I totally agree and you will get caught up in the prewar stuff, I started with "O" then got some standard gauge. For me I stay with the basics on a series instead of trying to collect or acquire all. For O I stick with the 4 wheel cars and for standard gauge I stick to the series 100 cars and the 35 36 passenger cars.

Sorry to get off the subject, I do not have any of the newer Lionel engines just postwar. I purchased a MTH PS-2 (3-volt) engine several months ago and the passenger cars that go with it (secondary market). The electronics are a fun, do not know about durability or getting replacement parts as one can get with prewar and post war engines. Basically I can not afford the new stuff but glad that others can and enjoy running all of the new stuff as this helps keep the manufactures in business and helps with the longevity of our hobby

I'm curious why people that have absolutely no interest in the product discussed are chiming in just to post totally off-topic stuff on different topics?  I have no problem with enjoying the older stuff, but this is a thread about the LC+ 2.0 locomotives.

Happens way too often here.

I think it's the logical evolution of LC to LC+ to LC+ 2.0.  Seriously.  LC started as an inexpensive way to give command control to folks just buying a basic set.  The loco additionally could be operated on any conventional or command layout.  The same is true of LC+ and LC+ 2.0, except that, respectively, they now offer conventional control, and conventional/TMCC/Legacy control, with Bluetooth thrown in more recently for those who like phone apps.  So each iteration expands the options (and to some extent the cost).

For those who are on a budget or like simple locos, they now offer, for the first time,  separate sale LC locos (under $200--a new low price for command control).  LC+ is not going to be around I'd guess.  LC in sets now include Bluetooth and Lionchief +2.0 sets or separate sale locos includes conventional.  Any of these locos can operate on a conventional layout with the included remote, the universal remote or the free Bluetooth app.  It's a bit complicated, but mostly to describe, not to operate.  And none of these locos require that you go out and spend hundreds of dollars on TMCC, Legacy or DCS for command operation.  You can use an included remote, a $40-50 three loco remote or the free app on your smart phone or tablet.  For those who own TMCC or Legacy, you can now, for the first time, also choose to use your command system to control 2.0 locos.

I liked how they had a PCBA on hand to show in the video.  Can't want for them to put it in a 0-4-0.  And if they can run pickups from the tender to the locomotive I hope all tenders going forward have pickups, that's make the Atlas #5 dead spot a non-issue for those locomotives.

Now the real question is will they make a version of it you can buy to upgrade locomotives?  The parts for the ERR boards are getting old hard to find, so why not offer these boards instead?

Has someone also mentioned the awesomeness that is the NKP Fast Freight Set? Sure, it may be a bit expensive but in the end I think it (and the TOFC add-on) will be a great start to the introduction of the LC 2.0 line. I myself am on the hunt for 10/11 items from the new catalog, but in total I don't think my family will spend roughly 5000 Bens on toy trains, so I've decided that the Fast Freight set (and hopefully the TOFC add-on) below will be the lucky winner should something happen.

RWBY + trains is an odd mix, but then I mix Hatsune Miku and trains.  Never could get into RWBY myself, but love anime in general.  But back on topic;

As for the set, I thought it was worth looking at, but I'm passing on it as it's not a road I want.  If it was ATSF I would be getting it for sure.  But in all I'm glad to see Lionel offer these new locomotives as stand along and as a set.  Makes a great way to expand your empire.

Theres still the 2.0 Lionchief ATSF Berkshire!

Kudos to Lionel for getting them right, I always thought all the ATSF Berks had that strange looking doghouse attached to 'em.

Oh, it is on my hit list.  I was just saying the set would have won if it was ATSF.  As for doghouse, there were several styles.  I think this one has that doghouse you were referring to.
