What happened to 'Lionel Lines'?

Considering the advertising Lionel would be getting out of it, I'd think the railroads would be looking at it the other way around. What would Lionel pay to get "Lionel Lines" on the side of a blue and orange SD80/90??

Or maybe Lionel pay for the paint and the RR do it for the fun of it!

We're talking several years back now, but I recall Lionel doing an I-12 caboose in the Lionel Lines livery.

Howabout L paying for a wrap on a light rail car!

Lionel always put the prototype RR Road Name on there higher end steamers and diesels. Also Gilbert didn't start using American Flyer Lines on his tenders until 1947, all the pre war 3/16 O and 1946 Flyer S used proto road names. Mantua also had Mantua on some early HO tenders.

Too bad this one never made it to production.  This prototype was auctioned off by lionel in the late 1990s.

About a decade or so ago Greenberg published a pocket guide of 3 rail roadnames.  I believe Lionel Lines was number one, followed closely by Pennsylvania.

The cylindrical hoppers (from 2001) on the far track are very nice with a blue to silver fade in paint...I have three as they kept popping up at cheap prices...

These 2400 series passenger cars (2005) are another favorite of mine.  There was a three car set with a two car add-on available...

A few "little guys"...
