I converted a conventional Lionel "General" steam loco to Bluetooth via a "brain transplant" techno change.  I intend to operate it on my home layout with the fixed voltage output of a 18v AC  transformer to the tracks. My question is:  Should I use a Lionel 135w brick or a MTH Z1000 brick? Does the brand make a difference?

I have both transformers available, so I'm wondering.

With thanks upfront ...

Mike, I cannot specifically relate to your question, but I have run the recent Lionel LionChief plus Christmas General under Blue Tooth control with a Z4000, a ZWL, a Lionel 180watt brick, an MRC transformer and a KW…… (home and modular club layouts.

Thanks for a prompt reply.  I'll accept your note as "the brand name makes no difference" -- so long as the voltage is appropriate.

Correct, especially for the plain transformer bricks, the voltage out will always be a pure sine wave.  The only thing to watch for is, as you say, the output voltage.  Some early MTH Z1000 bricks put out 24 VAC, too much for Lionel electronics.

Thanks for that tip.  I'll check the voltage output of my MTH Z1000. I've had it for 8 years or so.
