I kind of like it. It would be a good first layout to get started with.
It's from the old Track Planning for Realistic Operation book. It started with a simple loop then expanded with the switches etc.

Mike, you looked at it in 12/15 - is that why it seemed familiar?
In the thread above it looks like the plan was modified to fix a couple of the problems TOTRAINYARD identified, especially the way too short yard lead. The track coming out of the turntable going to the far left is still interesting, but now it can be used as a runaround track.
