How about a Williams True Blast II board? I have the complete guts from a Williams FA-1 that I have no use for.
Hi Paul. I have one of those too but I was hoping for a horn with a single hit rather than the familiar crossing signal. Thank you for the offer my friend.
The sound boards for the Lionel Conventional Classic diesels. Are pretty decent.
The part number is 691ISND101. You could also post in the WTB section in case someone has replaced this board with TMCC.

How about the MRC sounder that has been discussed here recently? Not sure they make a steam version, but it met the price objectives.
You MIGHT be able to get an older Signal Sounds board from Lionel. These were "popular" in some of the units shipped in the late nineties. Basic horn/whistle and bell. Should be about $30. Trouble will be finding a horn/whistle you like or at least will tolerate and their won't be a lot of choices.
Was that a newer one? They was supposed to be boosting the volume, just wondered if the new ones were better.
There are probably any number of original PS-1 boards sitting in surplus parts boxes all over the country, removed from engines that have been upgraded to PS-2.
Your LHS might be a good place to start, or local train shows.

Chris, the part number I posted was for a Trainmaster horn. When I saw horn I assumed it was for a diesel. If this is for an electric or steam engine then use what is in the CC GG1 or 2046 baby hudson. One reason the CC engines sound pretty good is the large sealed enclosure plus a decent driver. Not sure if its a fatboy or not though.

Chris, its #691ISND108 for the GG1 6-38302.

Great! Thanks Pete.

John. I think it was an older one. If they made it louder with a new one it would work well. The sounds were good in the old one but you just couldn't hear it.
There's a thread around here somewhere about the fellow from MRC and the new sounders being back in stock. One of the gripes was the sound level, which I thought was addressed.
I heard the same thing but didn't want to be the guinea pig after the last batch.
Frank -MRCtech said they were making it louder but I don't know if that the case or not.
I do have a thread going on how to get more sound but I don't think it'd help Chris as much noise as standard gauge dishes out.

Chris, I purchased a sound board from Lionel a few months ago, approx $30-$35, got the part number from Gunrunnerjohn I think. I needed a horn for my Williams Genesis still haven't put it in though.
GG1 used a Leslie A200 single chime. Sound was a sort of like the early Lionel F-3 bicycle horn, aka "blat" sound, but it was a bit deeper.
You can find nearly anything on the internet. Here is the GG1 horn in a Conventional Classic GG1.

Pete, nice link. If that board is available from Lionel parts, that's a good candidate.
BTW here is a link for the prototype
That's what I need for my basement Chuck, a real horn!

I was gonna ask how you'd get it mounted on Chris's engine, You'd have to carry a hundred cans of freon behind it to get more than one blast out of the horn.
definitely would be an attention getter for train meets

Chris, I just listed the Lionel Steam whistle board in the For-Sale section if that's something that works for you.
