In my opinion I would say Arttista makes the best people but Preiser also makes 1/72 people that measure out to between 5'4 to 5'10 in S-Scale that are excellent. I have a variety of small folks from all different manufactures.  Some are like myself and stand over 6'6'' others are like my Aunt who is 4'11''.  I use slightly different sizes depending on the environment I place them in. Traditional Flyer people were oversize for the trains but look good with the oversize Flyer accessories.  With scale accessories I use the Arttista or Presier figures. I also use scale figures around the trains.  It makes the trains look more massive and lifelike.

A small portion of MTH's figures are suitable for S-Scale.  They are the ones for use inside passengers cars.  The unpainted figure package is true S-Scale but there is not a lot of variety in them.

Some of the painted passenger figures come real close to S-scale and look good.  I used the ones that are drinking coffee at the counter of my Bus station and at my White castle burger place.

>> I was completely unaware of this fact. Now I feel I am being benefited by visiting this forum. There is a huge set of information here.

Another good place for S scale information is the web site of the NMRA-affiliated S SIG at:  Sscale.org    It has new product reviews, e-zine articles, a conversational forum, product and manufacturer listings and more.....  No need to be an NMRA member to visit and join.  A pleasant place to be.  Cheers....Ed Loizeaux

HO figures can be useful on an S scale layout if you wish to create the illusion of great distance in a small depth.  I use both HO and N scale figures for just that purpose.  S figures in the foreground with HO figures halfway up the mountain and N figures hiking way up top on the ridge line.  A good effect can be had.  Some European-made figures are 1:72 (OO scale) which are a tad larger than HO (1:87).  If you use HO, OO or N figures at all, be careful NOT to place them near anything S scale that rolls on wheels or is man made.  Placing them out in the middle of nature is usually safe since trees are not a standard size.  Hope this helps.  Ed Loizeaux
